Role Summary
We’re looking for a Product Manager who builds. Someone technically fluent, energised by ambiguity, and motivated by seeing things ship - not just planned.
As a Product Manager at Caruso, you’ll own product outcomes across complex customer problems. You’ll define what gets built, build working prototypes to test your assumptions, write specs that engineers can execute against, and stay close to delivery - unblocking engineers, working through tradeoffs together, and shipping small features directly.
You’ll work directly with enterprise clients and need the experience and judgement to translate messy requirements into buildable, prioritised product work - and the diplomacy to say no when needed.
This role suits someone who thrives in execution-heavy environments, enjoys complexity, and wants immediate impact rather than owning a narrow slice of a mature roadmap.
What You’ll Do
Product Definition & Scoping
You will define what gets built and in what order
Dig deep to understand the real problem, not just the surface request
Break down complex client needs into buildable, prioritised product work
Write clear specs and acceptance criteria that engineers can execute against
Prioritise ruthlessly across bugs, features, and technical debt
Build working prototypes in Claude Code, v0 or Figma to validate assumptions before committing engineering effort
Sense-check decisions across a growing product surface area to avoid conflicts or duplication
Delivery & Engineering Partnership
You keep things moving and ship alongside engineers.
Unblock engineers by working through scope and technical tradeoffs together in real time
Stay close to delivery - you’re in the detail, not handing off documents and waiting
Ship small features and refinements directly in the codebase
Manage competing priorities and stakeholder expectations across engineering, design, and client teams
Help engineers make good tradeoffs between speed, quality, and long-term platform health
Customer & Client Engagement
You will work close to real customer problems.
Engage directly with enterprise clients to translate requirements into product direction
Balance enterprise client needs with platform consistency and scalability
Act as the bridge between customers, product, and engineering
Have the experience and confidence to push back on requests that don’t make sense for the platform
Product Practice & Tooling
You improve how we go from scoping to shipping.
Use AI tooling as your default working method - drafting specs, exploring edge cases, building domain context, and building prototypes
Continuously refine how product work is defined and communicated to engineering
Stay pragmatic - improve flow and throughput, not add ceremony
Automate the parts of the job that can be automated
What We’re Looking For
Experience & Capability
3–5 years’ experience in product management or a technical product role
Background as a former software engineer preferred
Startup or scale-up experience essential - comfortable moving fast without heavy process
Able to speak credibly with engineers about APIs, data models, implementation tradeoffs, and migration complexity
Demonstrated fluency using AI tools (Claude Code, Claude Projects, Cursor, V0) to do real product work - prototyping, scoping, spec writing - not just experimentation
Excellent written communication - you can write clear specs, user stories, and acceptance criteria that engineering teams love
Mindset & Ways of Working
Highly autonomous and comfortable scoping work independently
Strong judgement and ability to prioritise ruthlessly
Bias toward execution over perfect definition
Excited and motivated to leverage AI as a Product Manager
Comfortable with ambiguity and evolving requirements
Practical, technically curious, and not afraid to get into the detail
Why Join Caruso?
Work on complex enterprise product challenges across AU, NZ, and US regulatory environments
Operate in a fast-moving start-up where PMs ship code, not just documents
Stay close to engineers, customers, and delivery every day
Use AI-native tools to fundamentally change what a PM can contribute
