Data Engineer
Everything happens somewhere - which is why spatial analytics is fundamental to companies trying to understand the “where” and the “why” of their business. CARTO is the world's leading cloud-native spatial analysis platform, built to break down the silos of traditional GIS. Trusted by data scientists, analysts, and developers from global brands such as IKEA, Coca-Cola, T-Mobile, Swiss Re, and AXA, CARTO enables organizations to run scalable spatial analysis directly on their cloud data warehouse. Providing insights for critical use cases like site selection, catastrophe modeling, network planning, and supply chain optimization.
Built by a diverse team of over 150 people across the US, APAC, and Europe, CARTO's cloud-native Agentic GIS platform provides a modern, future-proof alternative to legacy GIS. Offering a powerful suite of tools for visualization, analytics, and application development, our platform is redefining how companies work with location data. CARTO (backed by Insight Partners, Accel Partners, Salesforce Ventures, and Earlybird Ventures, among others) is fundamentally changing the way location data is analyzed, making it an integrated and accessible part of modern business intelligence.
At CARTO, we believe spatial context is one of the most underutilized dimensions in modern data platforms. While companies have become extremely sophisticated at analyzing what and when, very few truly leverage the power of where.
CARTO is the leading cloud-native Location Intelligence platform, built for the modern data stack. Instead of extracting data into legacy GIS systems, we extend the spatial capabilities of today’s leading cloud data warehouses — Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, and Redshift — enabling organizations to run advanced geospatial analytics directly where their data already lives.
We are redefining what “GIS” means in a warehouse-native world. Our platform provides:
- Advanced spatial SQL functions and geospatial processing
- H3-based large-scale spatial indexing strategies
- Raster analytics for environmental and risk modeling
- Scalable vector tile generation
- Secure, OAuth-enabled API layers
- React-based mapping and visualization libraries
- Deep integration with DBT and modern transformation workflows
But CARTO is not just a product company — our Professional Services team operates at the frontier of spatial data engineering. We design and deliver production-grade geospatial architectures for enterprise customers across insurance, retail, logistics, climate risk, financial services and beyond. We work where data engineering, cloud architecture and geospatial science intersect.
Technically, this means pushing warehouse-native spatial analytics to their limits — optimizing GEOGRAPHY queries, tuning clustering strategies, designing medallion-based DBT pipelines, parallelizing enrichment workflows, and making sure everything scales predictably under real enterprise workloads. If you are excited by:
- Treating SQL as a high-performance analytical language
- Designing systems that compute variables across thousands of geolocated assets
- Building backend services that orchestrate geocoding, raster analysis and data modeling
- Working directly with cloud-native architectures instead of legacy GIS stacks
- Solving spatial problems that most engineers never encounter
Then, CARTO is the place where those challenges are real, daily engineering problems — not academic exercises. We are building the future of spatial analytics inside the modern data stack.
What we are looking for: We are looking for a Data Engineer to help us deliver complex, enterprise-grade geospatial solutions built natively on modern cloud data platforms.. You will collaborate with frontend engineers (React + CARTO libraries), backend engineers, and solution architects to deliver production-ready systems for large customers.
Location: This is a remote-first role, open to candidates based anywhere in Spain. We have offices in Madrid and Seville if you prefer to work in person or want a place to collaborate occasionally, but there's no expectation to use them.
