The BOM Technician / Estimator for DIS-TRAN Steel is responsible for estimating project costs based on customer requests. This includes reviewing proposals, drawings, specifications, and other related documentation to determine labor, material, and time requirements needed to complete each project.

In addition to estimating, this role is responsible for accurately and timely entering job information into the Epicor ERP system. The BOM Technician / Estimator serves as a key point of contact for job-related inquiries, including drawing clarifications, job status updates, and revisions driven by internal teams or customer requirements.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and related materials, to develop a thorough understanding of project requirements.
  •  Interpret steel fabrication drawings, including structural details, member sizing, weld symbols, and material specifications.
  •  Extract quantities and material requirements from fabrication drawings to support accurate material takeoffs and estimating.
  •  Verify drawing details against project specifications to ensure alignment with fabrication and customer requirements.
  •  Identify discrepancies or missing information within drawings and coordinate with Detailing or Engineering for clarification.
  •  Utilize in-house software to compile proposal pricing and documentation.
  •  Build and maintain long-term relationships with the key vendors.
  •  Performs review of and updates lower-level bills of material and calculates material per part.
  •  Provides basic user assistance within bills of material, including writing reports to gather data.
  •  Compiles, sorts, and verify the accuracy of data before it is entered.
  •  Inputs individual jobs into Epicor by manual or electronic means.
  • Compares data with source documents, or reenters data in verification format to detect errors.
  • Runs Bill of Materials, Parts Traveler, Hardware, and Order Weight reports and checked for accuracy.
  •  Makes necessary revisions if any discrepancies to the job arise.
  •  Releases the job into the Epicor system for production to begin after final approval by the PC / AC.
  • REQUIREMENTS FOR ESTIMATOR:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  •  Engineering or Construction related degree preferred.
  •  Advanced knowledge of estimating strategies and techniques.
  •  Thorough understanding of steel fabrication, and contracts.
  •  Experience working with Microsoft Office suite is required.
  •  Experience working with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is preferred.
