Associate General Counsel - Employment
(This role has a hybrid schedule with 3 days in office and 2 days flex-remote)

The UHS Corporate Legal Department is hiring an Associate General Counsel to join our dynamic Legal team at Universal Health Services (UHS). This pivotal role involves identifying and analyzing complex legal matters relating to employment law and labor relations affecting UHS and its subsidiaries. The successful candidate will monitor and respond to employment law inquiries, including charges from the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and the Department of Labor, such as OSHA and wage and hour complaints. You will draft essential legal documents, provide sound recommendations, and ensure company compliance with employment regulations.
Key Responsibilities include:
Participate and provide legal assistance in union organizing campaigns. Some travel may be required to assist with organizing campaigns and attendance at NLRB hearings, as needed
Effectively manages administrative agency charges relating to labor and employment matters, as assigned, as well as other healthcare compliance matters (NRLB, DOL, EEOC, OSHA, OCR and state agencies). Prepare responses to such charges providing relevant information and documentation to defend the company’s positions, as needed. Coordinate and represent the company in mediation efforts when appropriate
Provide advice and counsel, in consultation with the Chief Employment Counsel, to the field in connection with employment issues, including policy implementation and interpretation and advising on operational decisions, pay practices, layoffs and disciplinary decisions
Coordinate issues with outside counsel for employment, litigation, administrative and regulatory matters as needed
Review and/or prepare employment related documents including but not limited to contracts and settlement agreements
Qualifications
Law degree with a minimum of 5 - 8 years' experience in employment and labor law.
Strong knowledge of laws, regulations and issues relative to employment law, labor law, human resource compliance, administrative agency charge processing and a general understanding of the healthcare industry. Background in healthcare strongly preferred
Strong background in legal research and writing
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Excellent communication, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage and respond to multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- State bar licensed required
