Outreach Instructional Specialist I (UPDATED) (On Call) (Part Time) (Multiple Positions)
Assist within the Astronomy Camp education team to support daily operations and help implement established program guidelines under supervision: Support team efforts and be flexible in responding to emerging needs, while working closely with senior staff to execute tasks. Assist with ensuring safety in all facilities and vehicles, following safety protocols and guidelines as instructed. Support in operating telescopes and other instruments for imaging and spectroscopy, with supervision and guidance. Help teach and assist with demos and interactive activities under supervision and guidance. Assist in maintaining and organizing the Astronomy Camp list of codes, passwords, and emergency phone numbers, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records. Communicate regularly with the Director, reporting any safety concerns or participant needs. Assist with delivering pre-established educational activities, ensuring an engaging and supportive learning environment: Collaborate within a team lo ensure adherence to youth protection guidelines. Support small group activities and assist with mentoring participants, encouraging effective learning and team morale. Encourage self-confidence and teamwork during hands-on projects under the guidance of senior staff. Support the education team in developing and implementing new activities and curricula as needed. Assist in addressing participants' special needs, ensuring they are met with respect and understanding. Assist in maintaining the health and safety of all participants, following instructions from the Camp Director and senior staff. Help ensure safe operations and support in enforcing Astronomy Camp rules. Assist in monitoring students' whereabouts at all times, ensuring that no students walk alone. Help monitor the needs of the students and report any concerns to the Director. Support the reinforcement of dormitory rules by following established procedures. Medications and Behavior: Notify the Director about medical or behavioral developments and concerns. Assist in maintaining a notebook of participants' medical forms. Support the Director and designated staff in maintaining adherence to established medication procedures, refraining from administering medications. Physical Requirements: Ability to work at high-altitude observatory sites. Training Courses that will need to be completed once hired: Youth Safety (Minors) Defensive Driving High Occupancy Vehicles Discrimination and Harassment Information Security Active shooter, Title IX, Campus Security Red Cross (or equivalent group) CPR, Adult First Aid, Opioids Camp internal: Operations of telescopes and instruments. When needed: Official Steward Certification training.
