Apprentice Mechanic or Mechanic (Light Duty)

This is an entry level or journeyman level work responsible for preventive maintenance and mechanical repairs on all of the County vehicles and equipment. Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining hiring salary. Apprentice Mechanic: Generally, the hiring range is $47,936-$59,920 annually. Mechanic: Generally, the hiring range is $58,395-$72,994 annually. This position includes an annual clothing allowance of $150 and a monthly tool allowance of $100. Apprentice Mechanic: View the full job description here Mechanic: View the full job description here ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive) Change lubricants, filters and performs other preventive maintenance functions as necessary. Performs safety inspections on any/all County equipment. General repairs on automotive and heavy construction equipment to include the repair of gasoline and diesel engines, repair of electrical systems including lights, repair of hydraulic systems, and repair/adjustment to drive train and brake systems. Perform diagnostic road tests. Travel to various locations for tire maintenance, repair work, drop-off and pick-up of vehicles, parts and/or delivery of fluids and equipment. Makes repairs to snow and ice equipment Inspects defective and malfunctioning equipment and performs diagnostic tests using diagnostic software and other equipment as required. Performs service calls in the field. Performs duties and training in both the light-duty and heavy-duty shops. On-Call during snow season to support the operations of snow removal fleet and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Repairs and replaces tires on all equipment. Other duties may be assigned as needed
