FAQ - Apprenticeships and vocational training

1. Is there a test?

We don’t have an aptitude test. We’d rather get a first impression of you in person.

2. What should I keep in mind for my application?
-
For your application, your most recent school report and, above all, your résumé are particularly important. Your résumé should be complete, clear, and well-organized so that we can get a good impression of you, your background, and your interests.

3. When can I start?
-
You’ll start in August. During our “ComStarts” event, all apprentices and vocational trainees start together in Frankfurt. You’ll meet people from different regions, make some initial contacts and get to know the area where you’ll be working.

4. How does an apprenticeship work?

You’ll alternate between a vocational school and practical phases at the bank, where you’ll gain important experience for your future position. You’ll also get to know other departments within your area, allowing you to build an extensive network. In addition, you’ll also take part in our in-house seminars, some of which are run in cooperation with the Frankfurt School of Finance.

5. How does vocational training work?

You’ll attend university in blocks, alternating between theory and practice. During the theoretical parts, you’ll be able to focus completely on your studies. During the practical phases, you’ll concentrate intensively on your field of work. During the various elective phases, you’ll gain a whole range of insights into exciting areas.

6. What can I do afterwards?

If you perform well, you’ll be guaranteed regular employment with us. This means that we’ll take you on with a permanent contract after your apprenticeship / vocational training. You’ll also have the opportunity to study after your apprenticeship or to enrol on a master’s course after your vocational training. During that time, you’ll be able to continue working for us as a “ComStudent”, where you’ll work at least 8 hours / week or full-time during semester breaks – as a pay-scale employee in the banking sector. What makes this so special is that it’s not just a working student position, but a talent development scheme.

7. How much will I get paid?

You’ll earn € 1,400 / month in the first year, € 1,470 / month in the second year and € 1,550 / month (apprenticeship) or € 1,640 / month (vocational training) in the third year. And that’s not all: You’ll also receive a double salary in December. And there’s more… You’ll also receive a total of € 650(spread over three years) as a grant for learning materials.

8. How much annual leave will I get?

You can take 30 days off during your practical phases. You’ll also have 24 and 31 December off, so you can easily combine your studies or apprenticeship with your private life.

9. What about my weekly working hours?

We have a 39-hour week.

10. How long is the probationary period?

The first four months of your programme will be a probationary period.

1. When should I apply?

It’s best to apply as soon as you know when and how long your internship should be. Just take a look at our online job portal.

2. How long is the internship?

As long as your school specifies or as long as you have time during the holidays. The ideal length is 2-3 weeks.

3. Is it a paid internship?
-
You’ll gain valuable experience and contacts that could help you choose a future career. Pupil internships are not paid.
