Job Summary
Masters-prepared specialty anesthesiologist assistant works under a licensed anesthesiologist. Administers anesthesia protocols to patients and follows up on aftercare. The supervising anesthesiologist is always accountable for the anesthesiologist assistant's activities.
Limited to select locations based on unique workplace dynamics.
Essential Functions of the Role
- Administers anesthesia under an anesthesiologist's medical direction. Administers the prescribed anesthetic with care to the patient's cardiovascular, respiratory, and metabolic health.
- Uses advanced treatment methods to fulfill section 1.1 responsibilities. This includes advanced airway interventions, trachea intubation, starting and adjusting vasoactive infusions, administering vasoactive and anesthetic drugs, and administering blood. Other treatments prescribed by the supervising anesthesiologist are also included.
- Consults with supervising anesthesiologist for anesthesia induction and trachea extubation. Also consults for unexpected events or significant deviations from the expected anesthetic course.
- Establishes a comprehensive patient database (by chart/medical record review and patient examination and interview) to help in anesthetic planning.
- Orders appropriate pre-op evaluations and pre-medications after consultation with the anesthesiologist, who is then responsible for these orders.
- Develops a patient focused culture that promotes the BEST Patient Care.
- Initiates multi-parameter monitoring before anesthesia or in acute care settings. Modalities include ASA Standard Monitors, arterial, and venous catheters. Accurately manipulates and interprets data from central venous, pulmonary artery, and intracranial catheters. Uses other indicated monitors or devices.
- Helps in the post-operative management of patients. Manages ventilator support and acute pain with protocols or the anesthesiologist.
