Analytical Chemist
Essential Functions:

Perform chemical and microbiological testing of raw material, in-process, and finished product samples in accordance with validated methods, SOPs, internal quality systems, GLP, cGMP, and all applicable state regulations.

Prepare and analyze samples of various matrices to support cultivation, processing, manufacturing, and research activities.

Operate, calibrate, perform routine maintenance, and troubleshoot complex analytical instrumentation including HPLC, GC-MS, and ICP.

Generate data for product COAs as documented summary of testing performed on production batches approved for release.

Support development and validation of analytical methods for new and existing analytes across production batch testing, product development, stability testing, and product characterization.

Ensure traceability through accurate generation, organization, and management of records including sample preparation logs, analytical results, standards, and reagents.

Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready laboratory environment.

Maintain and interface with analytical instrument software (Chemstation, GCMSsolution, ICPEsolution), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platforms.

Assist in identification and escalation of OOS and OOT results in accordance with established procedures.
Additional Responsibilities:

Support cross-functional initiatives such as new product development, shelf-life studies, or product reformulation by providing analytical support and sample testing.

Maintain and improve laboratory safety protocols, including hazard assessments, chemical inventory logs, and SDS management.

Participate in cross-training within the quality department to support continuity and coverage during absences or increased workloads.

Monitor and control lab waste disposal practices in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.

Support continuous improvement initiatives related to lab workflow, turnaround times, and data accuracy.

Provide guidance and mentorship to lab technicians as workload and development needs require.

Assist the Quality team in preparation, execution, and close-out of internal audits and regulatory inspections.

Support nonconformance investigations and CAPA processes by providing analytical data, root cause analysis input, and documentation.
- Support batch record review for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established specifications prior to product release.
What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or closely related physical science required; advanced degree preferred.

4-6 years of experience in a laboratory environment, preferably in a regulated industry (cannabis, food, pharma, or environmental).

Proficiency with common analytical instruments such as HPLC, GC, moisture analyzers, and spectrophotometers.

Understanding of data integrity principles, GMP, ISO, or ISO 17025 requirements.

Proficiency in lab documentation, including logbooks, test records, and COAs.
-
Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and laboratory information systems.

Must meet all background check and badging requirements as outlined by state cannabis regulatory agencies.

Ability to stand for extended periods, perform light lifting, and wear PPE as required.
-
Comfortable working with cannabis materials, solvents, and other lab-related chemicals.

Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

This person may be exposed to dust, kief, cleaning chemicals, and fumes. Although systems are in place to remove these byproducts, there is still exposure to some degree.
