Role Summary
50 South Capital Advisors is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Northern Trust and is an integrated alternative investment platform offering hedge fund, private credit and private equity solutions. The team has extensive experience investing in the industry and has been led by its founding partners since 2000.
The research analyst is part of the team responsible for sourcing and monitoring hedge fund investments for clients. The role focuses on conducting in-depth fundamental due diligence on existing and prospective hedge fund managers and presenting views and recommendations to the firm’s Investment Committee. The analyst also builds and maintains strong industry relationships and represents the firm effectively both internally and externally.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Identify and source hedge fund investments for client portfolios.
Monitor hedge fund investments to ensure the investment proposition remains attractive and risks are within expectations.
Conduct independent analysis on investments and provide recommendations to the firm's investment team.
Build well-supported recommendations for the Investment Committee, outlining opportunity, edge, and risks.
Perform industry and hedge fund sector analysis to identify trends and provide insights for our team.
Own coverage for specific hedge fund investments and support portfolio management activities.
Partner with Northern Trust colleagues and engage clients as needed.
Contribute to ad hoc investment projects.
Necessary Knowledge and Skills
Detail oriented with ability to effectively prioritize time and manage multiple tasks.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Skeptical and passionate about investing.
Strong analytical skills and deep knowledge of financial markets. Working knowledge of various hedge fund strategies. Ability to learn complex strategies and instruments.
Skill and experience in interviewing. Willingness to ask questions and constructively challenge opinions.
Team-oriented and collaborative.
Customer-focused; responds promptly to requests.
Willing to travel globally.
Necessary Experience and Education
Bachelor's degree required with emphasis in finance, accounting or economics preferred.
MBA, and/or CFA, preferred.
7-10 years of manager research, asset management, asset allocation, or hedge fund experience.
Salary Range:
$137,400 - 233,600 USDSalary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
