Actuarial Analyst
The Actuarial Assistant supports various actuarial functions that include pricing, financial reporting, & forecasting and product set up. They complete analysis on standard, defined tasks. This role learns techniques which support Assurant operations in achieving its goals related to revenue and profitability targets. The Actuarial Assistant understands direction provided, as it relates to project deliverables, time management, and development. The Actuarial Assistant generally reports to the Lead, Supervisor or Manager of Actuarial.
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Learns how to accurately produce details and requirements needed for internal and external requests and reports by following specifications in place.
- Establishes foundational knowledge of software and source system applications with the ability to locate, query, extract, manipulate, and reconcile data. SAS/SQL MUST
- Develops basic knowledge of programming and coding in supported platform.
- Is able to follow direction and updates tables on the and product set up
- Identifies system and data inefficiencies; implement resolutions as directed.
- Builds awareness of regulatory requirements impacting product lines supported. Prepares responses to state insurance departments under supervision.
- Proactively works to build strong relationships with peers, manager, and internal areas.
- Is able to work on multiple projects with varying deadlines and prioritizes.
- Actively manages self-development. Seeks knowledge & skills from team and other resources to accomplish goals.
- Takes actuarial exams in pursuit of professional designation.
Qualifications Required
- Degree in Actuarial Science
- Minimum of 2-4 years of overall experience
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office Applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, SharePoint. Advanced proficiency to various data repository platforms (SAS/SQL/etc.).
Preferred Experience, Skills, and Knowledge
- 5+ year of related experience in actuarial or analytical role preferred, but not required.
- Has solid understanding of actuarial concepts, insurance products and industry knowledge.
- Can complete standard, defined tasks & projects, independently.
- Uses direction from manager to facilitate resolutions in conflict.
- Has the ability to communicate with others on core responsibilities and needs.
