Accounting Supervisor

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day‑to‑day accounting activities and providing guidance, training, and mentorship to the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. This role supports the Corporate Controller in delivering reliable financial statements to senior management while promoting consistency, accuracy, and continuous improvement across accounting processes.

The Accounting Supervisor serves as a technical resource and leader for the accounting team, reviews work for quality and compliance with US GAAP, and partners with cross‑functional teams to support the company’s financial objectives. This position requires strong accounting knowledge, leadership capability, and the ability to balance hands‑on work with team oversight.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the daily activities of the accounting team, including providing guidance, training, and mentorship to Accountants and Senior Accountants
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with US GAAP
  • Support and oversee the monthly close process, including managing timelines and coordinating with other departments to ensure deadlines are met
  • Assist the Corporate Controller with preparation of accurate and timely financial statements and management reports
  • Analyze balance sheet and profit/loss account activity to identify unusual or erroneous postings and ensure timely resolution
  • Provide technical accounting guidance and serve as a point of escalation for complex accounting issues
  • Support development, documentation, and continuous improvement of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, including comparison of budgeted, actual, and forecasted results
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of fixed assets subledger and related reporting
  • Support sales tax filings, intercompany accounting, and external reporting requirements as applicable
  • Partner with IT to maintain and improve ERP systems and accounting‑related reporting tools
  • Protect the organization’s value by maintaining confidentiality of financial and company information
  • Support audit activities by preparing schedules and responding to auditor inquiries
  • Provide input into performance feedback and development planning for accounting staff
  • Other duties as assigned by TAS

JOB SKILLS:

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and general accounting principles
  • Demonstrated ability to review and analyze accoutnign work for accuracy and completeness
  • Ability to coach, train, and mentor accounting professionals
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to partner across departments
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
  • Strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities

EDUCATION & TRAINING:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Prior experience providing guidance, review or informal supervision of accounting staff
  • Strong experience with US GAAP accounting and external reporting process
  • Experience with a top tier ERP system (Infor preferable)
  • Experience with Sales Tax Filing
  • Experience presenting and reviewing ledger account reconciliations
  • Experience with balance sheet analysis and profit/loss account review
  • Experience maintaining fixed assets subledger

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prior supervisory or team-lead experience
  • Experience with Alvalara and/or FAS software
  • Experience with intercompany accounting
  • Experience with goods receipts matching
  • Accounting experience in a manufacturing and/or project-based environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Position is at least 80% to 95% at a desk working with computer. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions.  Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and conduct extensive reading.  The incumbent will be subject to inside environmental conditions.
