About the role
Group wide role supporting accounting policies and advice and exciting projects

The role of Accounting Policies & Advice Manager ensures AGL has the technical accounting expertise and capacity to respond in a pro-active way to both complex transactions and upcoming technical accounting changes, lead the associated continuing education of the wider Finance team and process improvement initiatives.
What you’ll be doing:
Finance lead for M&A activities
Use your commercial acumen and technical accounting expertise to provide high quality advice to the business on the accounting treatment of non-standard transactions, particularly mergers, acquisitions and disposals.
Ensure judgements pertaining to transactions and findings from the due diligence process are documented as required.
Owner of AGL’s accounting policies
Update and maintain AGL’s suite of Accounting Policies and proactively assess the impact of upcoming changes in accounting standards for AGL.
Proactively engage with AGL’s external auditors on technical accounting matters including treatment of non-standard transaction and AGL’s interpretation of new accounting standards.
Working alongside the sustainability reporting team, the role will contribute to the assessment, plan and implementation of controls and processes to ensure AGL is compliant with existing and emerging ESG reporting requirements.
Stakeholder and people management
Enhance awareness and capability in the wider Finance team in relation to the application of accounting standards.
Provide guidance and mentoring to other members of the Group Reporting & Advisory team.
Prepare material on behalf of Finance executives for presentation to the AGL Board and Audit Committee.
Brief senior business stakeholders on accounting matters, rationale and considered alternatives.
Work on ad hoc projects as required, including identifying, leading, and conducting change management activities.
About You
You will come from a Big 4 Accounting Advisory or similar background with relevant experience dealing with technical accounting advice, stakeholder management and client liaison. You will be a team player who is collaborative and can provide guidance and mentoring to others. You will be proactive and able to manage multiple priorities, with exceptional attention to detail.
What you’ll bring to the table
Tertiary qualifications associated with Accounting, Business, Commerce or Economics
Qualified Accountant (CA/CPA)
Significant exposure to International Financial Accounting Standards (IFRS) assessment and analysis is essential
Experience leading and implementing new accounting standards (essential)
Experience with large ERP systems (SAP preferred)
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills – able to interact effectively with both finance and non-finance people at all levels of the business including Senior Management, communicate complex accounting topics to non-accountants, influence change to adopt new processes and standards
Exposure to the Energy, Oil & Gas or similar highly regulated industries would be preferred
Exposure to M&A transactions would be highly regarded.
