7406 Temporary Instructor: SURGICAL TECHNOLOGY
The Department of Surgical Technology and Sterile Processing Technology confers an associate's degree in applied science in Surgical Technology and a certificate in sterile processing technology. The department is part of the School of Health and Sciences and is housed at the Barton Campus of Greenville Technical College. The department values teaching in didactics, lab activities and in the clinical setting of the operating room, labor and delivery, sterile processing, the emergency department, the gastrointestinal lab, and doctor's offices. Clinical opportunities are provided for students in the Greenville, Anderson, Oconee, and Laurens areas of Upstate South Carolina. Sterile Processing is a one semester program and Surgical Technology is an additional two semesters. The program graduates between on average 30 students annually. The two full-time instructors are Certified Surgical Technologist and Registered Nurses. The one part-time instructor in the Department is a Certified Surgical Technologist. The department is dedicated to student learning. Instructors work diligently to assist students with perfect skills and to obtain cognitive knowledge to successfully complete the certification exam and to secure employment. The Surgical Technology Department is dedicated to the preparation of individuals to meet the health care needs of the public. Graduate surgical technologists will be able to provide competent care to individuals, families, and communities. Competent care encompasses the promotion of health and wellness, knowledge in health care policy, promotion of advocacy, utilization and participation in competency-based education, and application of leadership skills in a variety of health care settings. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). In this challenging role, you will support the Surgical Technology department at Greenville Technical College and will assist students to acquire knowledge, psychomotor skills, and affective skills necessary for preparation for taking the certification exam and practicing as an entry level surgical technologist. Duties may include any or all the following: Coordinate/collaborate with course members to ensure that teaching-learning activities (including clinical client assignments) meet course learning objectives. Maintain/encourage a safe learning and practice environment. Maintain knowledge and compliance with current policies/procedures (including CDC/OSHA guidelines) related to infection control and hazardous waste management. Use sound judgment in decision making related to students learning and client safety in the clinical area. Demonstrates knowledge of surgical technology practice. Maintain professional relationships with healthcare agency staff, peers, clients, and students. Maintain documentation of student progress in the learning process Maintain confidentiality in all matters relating to students, clients, hospitals, personnel, and faculty. Serve as a liaison between faculty and the clinical agency/agencies. Maintain competence through continuous professional development.
