The Opportunity:
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join Professor Andy Baker’s laboratory in the Institute for Neuroscience and Cardiovascular Research at the University of Edinburgh. This position is funded by a European Research Council (ERC) grant and will focus on developing and characterising advanced therapeutic approaches for cardiovascular disease, including gene- and RNA-based interventions.
You will work within a multidisciplinary team of basic and clinician scientists, contributing to experimental design, data generation and analysis, and publication of high-impact research. The role offers excellent opportunities for scientific development, collaboration, and career progression in an internationally recognised cardiovascular research environment.

Your Skills and Attributes for Success:
A PhD in the field of gene therapy or cardiovascular biology/therapy.
Strong knowledge of cardiovascular pathophysiology, including an understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular disease.
Experience in experimental models relevant to cardiovascular disease models, such as cardiac injury or vascular disease models. Knowledge of primary cell culture of vascular or cardiomyocytes cells, e.g induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived cardiomyocytes and/or other cardiovascular cell types.
Knowledge of advanced therapies, such as gene therapy and RNA therapeutics with experience in one or more of - viral/non-viral vectors, RNA delivery, antisense/siRNA/miRNA therapeutics, or related platforms.
Proven research track record - evidence of productivity through high-quality publications, presentations, or equivalent outputs and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills, including the ability to manage multiple experimental workflows, maintain accurate records and clearly present scientific data in written and oral form.
