Key Takeaways

  • 75% of U.S. employers use automated applicant tracking systems to screen resumes before a human reviews them (Harvard Business School & Accenture, 2021)
  • The most common ATS failures are missing keywords, incompatible formatting, and incorrect file types
  • ResumeGeni scores your resume across 8 parsing layers — modeled on the same steps enterprise ATS platforms like Workday, Greenhouse, and Taleo use to evaluate candidates

How ATS Resume Scoring Works

Applicant tracking systems parse your resume into structured data — extracting your name, contact info, work history, skills, and education — then score how well that data matches the job requirements. Many ATS rejections happen because the parser couldn't extract critical fields, not because the candidate wasn't qualified.

LayerWhat It ChecksWhy It Matters
Document extractionFile format, encoding, readabilityCorrupted or image-only PDFs fail immediately
Layout analysisTables, columns, headers, footersMulti-column layouts break field extraction
Section detectionExperience, education, skills headingsNon-standard headings cause sections to be missed
Field mappingName, email, phone, dates, titlesMissing contact info is a common cause of immediate rejection
Keyword matchingJob-specific terms, skills, certificationsKeyword overlap affects recruiter search visibility and ATS scoring
Chronology checkDate ordering, gap detectionReverse-chronological order is expected by most ATS

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ResumeGeni free?
Yes. ResumeGeni is currently in beta — ATS analysis, scoring, and initial improvement suggestions are free with no signup required. Full guidance and saved reports may require a free account.
What file formats are supported?
PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, RTF, ODT, and Apple Pages. PDF and DOCX are recommended for best ATS compatibility.
How is the ATS score calculated?
Your resume is processed through an 8-layer parsing pipeline that extracts structured data the same way enterprise ATS platforms do. The score reflects how completely and accurately your resume can be parsed, plus how well your content matches common ATS ranking criteria.
Can ATS read PDF resumes?
Yes, but not all PDFs are equal. Text-based PDFs parse well. Image-only PDFs (scanned documents) and PDFs with complex tables or multi-column layouts often fail ATS parsing. Our analyzer will flag these issues.
How do I improve my ATS score?
Focus on three areas: use a clean single-column format, include keywords from the job description naturally in your experience bullets, and ensure all sections (contact, experience, education, skills) use standard headings.

Job Summary:

The Program Scheduling Analyst plays a crucial role within the Program Controls function, collaborating closely with the Program Controls Analyst to support a diverse portfolio of aerospace programs for DoD, NASA, and commercial customers. These programs encompass Firm Fixed Price, Cost-Plus, and pure commercial contracts, some of which necessitate ANSI/EIA-748-compliant Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS). This role involves developing and maintaining Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) using Microsoft Project as the enterprise scheduling tool. The Program Scheduling Analyst ensures cost-schedule integration, supports effective program planning and execution, and customizes scheduling strategies to align with each program's unique lifecycle, risk posture, and contractual requirements. This position requires a high degree of collaboration among engineering, business, and operational teams to ensure that programs are delivered on time, within budget, and with full visibility into performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and control Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) aligned with the WBS, Control Account structure, and contractual deliverables.
  • Apply Critical Path Methodology (CPM), perform schedule integrity checks, and maintain logical network relationships.
  • Integrate schedules with cost and risk systems to support full cost-schedule integration and, when required, Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Establish and maintain schedule baselines; support baseline change management and Integrated Baseline Reviews (IBRs).
  • Perform schedule performance analysis, including variance analysis, float analysis, critical path identification, metrics, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Schedule Risk Assessments (SRAs), and trend assessments.
  • Support Estimate to Complete (ETC), Estimate at Completion (EAC), and forecasting processes in partnership with the Program Controls Analyst.
  • Tailor scheduling and planning approaches to suit program type—ranging from highly regulated government programs to agile commercial efforts.
  • Support proposal activities by developing proposal-level schedules aligned with technical and cost strategies.
  • Collaborate daily with Program Managers, CAMs, engineers, contracts, procurement, finance, quality, and other functions to ensure integrated execution.
  • Present schedule performance data and recommendations to leadership, customer stakeholders, and functional teams.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and support tool integrations across cost, schedule, and risk and change management systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in project scheduling or program planning within aerospace, defense, or other technically complex environments, supporting diverse program types.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Program Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Experience developing and maintaining logic-driven network schedules for programs.
  • Knowledge of Critical Path Methodology (CPM), float analysis, and schedule risk assessment.
  • Experience with schedule baseline development and change control processes.
  • Knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM) principles and schedule integration techniques.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project (enterprise scheduling tool) and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills, including experience briefing program leadership.
  • Ability to work across multiple programs with varying contract types, lifecycle phases, and reporting requirements.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with both technical program teams and business/finance stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills; ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to lead with confidence and support/mentor junior schedulers in day-to-day operations
  • Must be willing to travel on occasion to other business sites in support of EVM and Scheduling

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting DoD, NASA, or government aerospace programs with full EVM and IBR participation.
  • Familiarity with other enterprise-level scheduling tools.
  • Experience integrating MS Project with cost and performance tools (e.g., Cobra, wInsight, EVMS forProject, or internal dashboards).
  • Experience tailoring scheduling practices for commercial programs and agile development environments.
  • Ability to assess and improve existing planning processes and tools.
