Key Takeaways

  • 75% of U.S. employers use automated applicant tracking systems to screen resumes before a human reviews them (Harvard Business School & Accenture, 2021)
  • The most common ATS failures are missing keywords, incompatible formatting, and incorrect file types
  • ResumeGeni scores your resume across 8 parsing layers — modeled on the same steps enterprise ATS platforms like Workday, Greenhouse, and Taleo use to evaluate candidates

How ATS Resume Scoring Works

Applicant tracking systems parse your resume into structured data — extracting your name, contact info, work history, skills, and education — then score how well that data matches the job requirements. Many ATS rejections happen because the parser couldn't extract critical fields, not because the candidate wasn't qualified.

LayerWhat It ChecksWhy It Matters
Document extractionFile format, encoding, readabilityCorrupted or image-only PDFs fail immediately
Layout analysisTables, columns, headers, footersMulti-column layouts break field extraction
Section detectionExperience, education, skills headingsNon-standard headings cause sections to be missed
Field mappingName, email, phone, dates, titlesMissing contact info is a common cause of immediate rejection
Keyword matchingJob-specific terms, skills, certificationsKeyword overlap affects recruiter search visibility and ATS scoring
Chronology checkDate ordering, gap detectionReverse-chronological order is expected by most ATS

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ResumeGeni free?
Yes. ResumeGeni is currently in beta — ATS analysis, scoring, and initial improvement suggestions are free with no signup required. Full guidance and saved reports may require a free account.
What file formats are supported?
PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, RTF, ODT, and Apple Pages. PDF and DOCX are recommended for best ATS compatibility.
How is the ATS score calculated?
Your resume is processed through an 8-layer parsing pipeline that extracts structured data the same way enterprise ATS platforms do. The score reflects how completely and accurately your resume can be parsed, plus how well your content matches common ATS ranking criteria.
Can ATS read PDF resumes?
Yes, but not all PDFs are equal. Text-based PDFs parse well. Image-only PDFs (scanned documents) and PDFs with complex tables or multi-column layouts often fail ATS parsing. Our analyzer will flag these issues.
How do I improve my ATS score?
Focus on three areas: use a clean single-column format, include keywords from the job description naturally in your experience bullets, and ensure all sections (contact, experience, education, skills) use standard headings.

Sterile Processing Technician Program - Live Instructor

Springboardmentors · Remote

The Company

At Springboard, we’re on a mission to bridge the world’s skills gap, offering transformative online education in data science, UI/UX design, machine learning, and coding. Our courses may be tech-enabled, but we're ultimately human-centric: each student taps into a vast community throughout their time with us, engaging with fellow students, industry-expert mentors, student advisors, and career coaches, the goal of which is to successfully transition students into their dream job. Through this hybrid approach, we’ve helped thousands of learners revamp their careers and, by extension, their lives, with hundreds of top-notch job offers received every year and a near-perfect placement rate for our program graduates.

Overview:

Springboard is launching an online course for aspiring Sterile Processing Technicians who have no prior experience in healthcare. Springboard is looking to hire an engaging Live Instructor with prior experience teaching aspiring Sterile Processing Technicians (CSPTs) preparing for the CRCST exam, and who is able to serve as a founding instructional partner and subject matter expert, helping to shape session structure, pacing, and exam-readiness strategy for a first-time program launch.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate 60-minute, large-group “review sessions” (20-30 students per session) aligned to key curriculum & CRCST focus areas over a 14-week period.
    • Each lecture will be held 2x weekly to accommodate time zones.
  • Lead engaging, motivational sessions that help build student confidence in material.
  • Prepare independently for live sessions (up to 3 additional hours per week).
  • As this is a new program, work with Springboard’s learning team to develop and modify all session agendas and lecture decks. [Note: We’re looking for someone who likes to build out session agendas and content, not just teach it. No branding/design skill required.]
  • Develop gamified approaches using tools like Kahoot and others.
  • Offer 2 live session slots per week, to accommodate different time zones.
  • Perform tool demonstrations as needed.
  • Support CRCST exam prep by holding exam review sessions towards the end of the course.
  • Respond to student questions about course material over email as needed.
  • Other needs as they arise.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least five years’ experience working as a sterile processor. Experience working in a hospital-based sterile processing department preferred.
  • Current CRCST certification through HSPA (certification must be active).
  • Prior teaching, training, or precepting experience in Sterile Processing is required. Experience teaching in online or hybrid environments is required.
  • Ability to break down complex sterilization and infection prevention concepts for students with no prior healthcare experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Must have excellent computer skills and must have reliable internet (no hot spots).  Instructors must be logged onto their computers and utilize their computers for all sessions.
  • Ability to work independently, think critically, and reliably commit to a lecture schedule.
  • Must be able to support 24-hour response times to Springboard emails, and 24-48 business-hour response times to student questions.
  • Strong student empathy, excellent communication skills, and a positive outlook on the Sterile Processing role & career.
  • You live and work in the US.
