Position Summary

Sony Honda Mobility of America (SHMA) is seeking a Software Engineer, In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) to join our Engineering Development team in the San Francisco Bay Area. In this role, you will contribute to the development, integration, and validation of infotainment features and system components for AFEELA vehicles.

You will work closely with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams in the U.S. and Japan to help deliver high-quality user experiences across multimedia, connectivity, navigation, and third-party applications. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer who wants hands-on exposure to real-world automotive systems and who thrives in a collaborative, fast-moving product development environment.

This role offers strong mentorship, technical growth, and increasing responsibility as you build experience within the IVI and software-defined vehicle ecosystem.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain IVI software modules, including applications, middleware, and OS components (Android Automotive, QNX, Linux).
  • Debug and troubleshoot IVI software in collaboration with international development and QA teams.
  • Conduct validation, performance testing, and optimization for automotive use cases.
  • Support UI/UX teams to implement responsive, intuitive user experiences.
  • Assist with developer support for partners contributing applications or frameworks.
  • Support demo vehicle setup and conduct problem analysis with global QA and development teams.
  • Participate in cross-regional activities with Japan HQ, external vendors, and partners.
  • Contribute to ensuring compliance with safety standards and automotive requirements.

Required Qualifications for Position

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of professional software development experience, including work with embedded systems such as Android OS, QNX, or Linux.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (C++, Java, or Python).
  • Familiarity with multimedia frameworks, HMI/GUI development, or connectivity stacks (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LTE/5G).
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills in both software and hardware contexts.
  • Ability to collaborate in international, cross-functional teams.
  • Flexibility to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment.
  • Willingness to travel internationally.

Preferred Qualifications for Position

  • Hands-on experience with Android Automotive OS or other IVI platforms.
  • Exposure to cloud service integration (voice assistants, OTA updates, streaming apps).

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $150,000-$165,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for.  The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
