Key Takeaways

  • 75% of U.S. employers use automated applicant tracking systems to screen resumes before a human reviews them (Harvard Business School & Accenture, 2021)
  • The most common ATS failures are missing keywords, incompatible formatting, and incorrect file types
  • ResumeGeni scores your resume across 8 parsing layers — modeled on the same steps enterprise ATS platforms like Workday, Greenhouse, and Taleo use to evaluate candidates

How ATS Resume Scoring Works

Applicant tracking systems parse your resume into structured data — extracting your name, contact info, work history, skills, and education — then score how well that data matches the job requirements. Many ATS rejections happen because the parser couldn't extract critical fields, not because the candidate wasn't qualified.

LayerWhat It ChecksWhy It Matters
Document extractionFile format, encoding, readabilityCorrupted or image-only PDFs fail immediately
Layout analysisTables, columns, headers, footersMulti-column layouts break field extraction
Section detectionExperience, education, skills headingsNon-standard headings cause sections to be missed
Field mappingName, email, phone, dates, titlesMissing contact info is a common cause of immediate rejection
Keyword matchingJob-specific terms, skills, certificationsKeyword overlap affects recruiter search visibility and ATS scoring
Chronology checkDate ordering, gap detectionReverse-chronological order is expected by most ATS

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ResumeGeni free?
Yes. ResumeGeni is currently in beta — ATS analysis, scoring, and initial improvement suggestions are free with no signup required. Full guidance and saved reports may require a free account.
What file formats are supported?
PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, RTF, ODT, and Apple Pages. PDF and DOCX are recommended for best ATS compatibility.
How is the ATS score calculated?
Your resume is processed through an 8-layer parsing pipeline that extracts structured data the same way enterprise ATS platforms do. The score reflects how completely and accurately your resume can be parsed, plus how well your content matches common ATS ranking criteria.
Can ATS read PDF resumes?
Yes, but not all PDFs are equal. Text-based PDFs parse well. Image-only PDFs (scanned documents) and PDFs with complex tables or multi-column layouts often fail ATS parsing. Our analyzer will flag these issues.
How do I improve my ATS score?
Focus on three areas: use a clean single-column format, include keywords from the job description naturally in your experience bullets, and ensure all sections (contact, experience, education, skills) use standard headings.

Full-Stack Engineer (AI)

Sobek Ai · Seattle

About Sobek AI

Sobek AI is building the secure nervous system for life‑sciences innovation networks and intergovernmental emergency response. Backed by $10M+ in grants and funding, we partner with globally significant organizations to accelerate mission‑critical, distributed workflows with AI—while protecting IP and sensitive public‑health data.

The Role

We’re looking for a bedrock full‑stack hire to own product surfaces end‑to‑end—from shaping the UI to the services and data models behind it. This is a high‑impact, high‑ownership role focused on turning complex, Gen AI workflows into trustworthy software.

What you’ll do

  • Own features across the stack. Take ideas from conception to production: UX flows → React/TypeScript UI → well‑scoped Python/TypeScript APIs/services → production rollout and measurement.

  • Build intuitive, data‑dense interfaces. Tables, complex forms, document views, comparisons for modern Gen AI workflows, while keeping these accessible and responsive.

  • Design and operate services. Create clear REST/gRPC/streaming endpoints, model data in SQL/NoSQl + vector stores, use queues/caches when it helps, and add tracing/metrics.

  • AI orchestration. Extend orchestration that reliably manages multi‑LLM workflows with the right controls for cost, latency, and security/auditability.

  • Ship quickly, iterate with users. Prototype, launch behind flags, collect feedback/telemetry, and refine.

  • Collaborate deeply. Partner with engineers across the stack to translate real needs into reliable software.

  • Be a force multiplier. Drive reviews and ADRs across frontend and backend and set patterns others can scale.

About you

  • 3+ years of full‑time software engineering experience.

  • You’ve owned and shipped full‑stack software in production—from UI (bonus for React/TypeScript) through backend services (bonus for Python or Node.js)—and you understand the deployment pipeline in product environments where quality and speed both matter.

  • Comfortable designing API contracts (paging, errors, retries) and debugging end‑to‑end with logs/traces.

  • Can reason about concurrency, consistency, and event‑driven architectures.

  • You care about accessibility, performance, and security hygiene in production.

  • CS degree (BS/MS) or equivalent foundation.

Bonus

  • UI/UX design experience: can create wireframes, user flows, and lightweight interactive prototypes

  • Worked with sensitive data (life sciences, government) or regulated environments (HIPAA/PHI, SOC 2/ISO).

  • Experience instrumenting product metrics that connect UX to system behavior.

  • Streaming/real‑time patterns; virtualized data‑grids; compare/diff workflows.

Details

  • Compensation: $170K–$230K + meaningful equity

  • Location: Hybrid (Seattle, WA)

  • Benefits: 100% Company‑paid premium health coverage (including dependents)

  • Visa: We do not sponsor visas for this role at this time
