Key Takeaways

  • 75% of U.S. employers use automated applicant tracking systems to screen resumes before a human reviews them (Harvard Business School & Accenture, 2021)
  • The most common ATS failures are missing keywords, incompatible formatting, and incorrect file types
  • ResumeGeni scores your resume across 8 parsing layers — modeled on the same steps enterprise ATS platforms like Workday, Greenhouse, and Taleo use to evaluate candidates

How ATS Resume Scoring Works

Applicant tracking systems parse your resume into structured data — extracting your name, contact info, work history, skills, and education — then score how well that data matches the job requirements. Many ATS rejections happen because the parser couldn't extract critical fields, not because the candidate wasn't qualified.

LayerWhat It ChecksWhy It Matters
Document extractionFile format, encoding, readabilityCorrupted or image-only PDFs fail immediately
Layout analysisTables, columns, headers, footersMulti-column layouts break field extraction
Section detectionExperience, education, skills headingsNon-standard headings cause sections to be missed
Field mappingName, email, phone, dates, titlesMissing contact info is a common cause of immediate rejection
Keyword matchingJob-specific terms, skills, certificationsKeyword overlap affects recruiter search visibility and ATS scoring
Chronology checkDate ordering, gap detectionReverse-chronological order is expected by most ATS

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ResumeGeni free?
Yes. ResumeGeni is currently in beta — ATS analysis, scoring, and initial improvement suggestions are free with no signup required. Full guidance and saved reports may require a free account.
What file formats are supported?
PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, RTF, ODT, and Apple Pages. PDF and DOCX are recommended for best ATS compatibility.
How is the ATS score calculated?
Your resume is processed through an 8-layer parsing pipeline that extracts structured data the same way enterprise ATS platforms do. The score reflects how completely and accurately your resume can be parsed, plus how well your content matches common ATS ranking criteria.
Can ATS read PDF resumes?
Yes, but not all PDFs are equal. Text-based PDFs parse well. Image-only PDFs (scanned documents) and PDFs with complex tables or multi-column layouts often fail ATS parsing. Our analyzer will flag these issues.
How do I improve my ATS score?
Focus on three areas: use a clean single-column format, include keywords from the job description naturally in your experience bullets, and ensure all sections (contact, experience, education, skills) use standard headings.

We are a group of individuals who care deeply about our craft. We are obsessive down to fractional millimeters. We have exceptional taste, and live in and are informed by fashion, luxury, and cultural spaces outside of technology. We value radical creativity, and view making and craft as one of the highest forms of human connection. We are passionate about things no one will ever see or know – simply because it’s the right thing to do.

About the Role

We're looking for an Industrial Designer who is passionate about creating luxury eyewear and a supporting accessory portfolio - work that blends refined aesthetics, advanced materials, and thoughtful user experience. This role requires a strong sense of taste and the ability to translate trends, CMF direction, and brand DNA into distinctive, production-ready designs.

You bring fluency in both soft and hard goods, an eye for the details that most people will never consciously register, and the rigor to see every decision through to production. You will shape products and accessories that express traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design excellence - at the frontier of what personal computing can look and feel like.

Concept Development

  • Generate innovative industrial design and CMF concepts that align with our brand’s aesthetic, fashion direction, and user needs.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, CMF specialists, product managers, and modelers, to explore, develop, and refine concepts.

  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, prototyping and production techniques.

Design Execution

  • Create detailed sketches, technical drawings to visualize and communicate design intent.

  • Develop prototypes and mockups to evaluate proportions, fit, materiality, and aesthetic quality.

  • Iterate on designs based on user insights, testing feedback, and internal reviews to optimize comfort, usability, and visual appeal.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing partners, and material suppliers to ensure design feasibility and production accuracy.

  • Communicate design rationale, specifications, and CMF decisions clearly to internal teams and external vendors.

  • Participate in design and prototype reviews, offering constructive feedback to elevate design quality and execution.

Industry Trends and Innovation

  • Stay informed on global fashion trends, eyewear silhouettes, color directions, and emerging materials.

  • Integrate new design approaches, fabrication techniques, and fashion influences into concept development

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong portfolio showcasing both creative and technical design skills.

  • 5+ years of professional experience in industrial design, fashion accessories, luxury goods, or closely related consumer product categories; experience in consumer electronics is a strong plus.

  • Strong understanding of soft-goods / hard-goods integration, CMF development, and design for manufacturing in the luxury industry.

  • High proficiency in 2D design tools (such as Illustrator, Photoshop, or equivalent) for creating detailed drawings, CMF specs, and presentation layouts.

  • High proficiency in 3D design tools (Rhinoceros, SolidWorks, Autodesk Alias, or equivalent) for creating detailed, 3D models

  • Strong communication skills to present and justify design decisions.

  • Exceptional sketching and visualization skills with the ability to communicate design concepts clearly and compellingly.

  • Strong aesthetic sensibility, trend awareness, and rigorous and exacting attention to detail.

  • Hands-on experience with physical and digital prototyping tools and techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth understanding of materials and manufacturing processes relevant to eyewear, electronics, and luxury accessories.

  • Experience applying user-centered design methodologies, human factors, and iterative concept refinement.

  • Familiarity with sustainable design practices, responsible material sourcing, and environmentally conscious production methods.

  • Strong interest in the luxury fashion market, global design trends, and emerging innovations in eyewear and accessories.

  • Experience working with high-end eyewear brands or luxury fashion houses is a significant plus.
