Key Takeaways

  • 75% of U.S. employers use automated applicant tracking systems to screen resumes before a human reviews them (Harvard Business School & Accenture, 2021)
  • The most common ATS failures are missing keywords, incompatible formatting, and incorrect file types
  • ResumeGeni scores your resume across 8 parsing layers — modeled on the same steps enterprise ATS platforms like Workday, Greenhouse, and Taleo use to evaluate candidates

How ATS Resume Scoring Works

Applicant tracking systems parse your resume into structured data — extracting your name, contact info, work history, skills, and education — then score how well that data matches the job requirements. Many ATS rejections happen because the parser couldn't extract critical fields, not because the candidate wasn't qualified.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ResumeGeni free?
Yes. ResumeGeni is currently in beta — ATS analysis, scoring, and initial improvement suggestions are free with no signup required. Full guidance and saved reports may require a free account.
What file formats are supported?
PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, RTF, ODT, and Apple Pages. PDF and DOCX are recommended for best ATS compatibility.
How is the ATS score calculated?
Your resume is processed through an 8-layer parsing pipeline that extracts structured data the same way enterprise ATS platforms do. The score reflects how completely and accurately your resume can be parsed, plus how well your content matches common ATS ranking criteria.
Can ATS read PDF resumes?
Yes, but not all PDFs are equal. Text-based PDFs parse well. Image-only PDFs (scanned documents) and PDFs with complex tables or multi-column layouts often fail ATS parsing. Our analyzer will flag these issues.
How do I improve my ATS score?
Focus on three areas: use a clean single-column format, include keywords from the job description naturally in your experience bullets, and ensure all sections (contact, experience, education, skills) use standard headings.

The EMEA Research team is central in uncovering compelling ways to engage and entertain our members across Europe, Middle East and Africa. This Researcher role supports our country researchers, who support local decision making, and our Commerce researcher who works with Partnership and Growth teams across EMEA.

This is an opportunity to lead innovative research, analysis and storytelling with a demonstrable impact on the EMEA business. You will be responsible for defining, leading, analyzing, and socializing research studies that generate insights to empower business decisions across the company. You’ll partner with cross-functional teams passionate about delivering the most engaging, innovative, and inclusive content and experiences.

In this role, you will:

  • Synthesise data from multiple sources (surveys, qualitative, behavioural, 3rd party) to craft a clear meaning and create deeper insights.

  • Lead both qualitative and quantitative ad hoc research projects across multiple countries and areas (Content, Marketing, Product), under the supervision of senior researchers across the EMEA team.

  • Proactively partner with other CI researchers and cross-functional partners, including Content, Marketing, Product, Data Science and Brand, to develop new research initiatives

About you:

  • Experience in product research, market research, content research, and/or analytics. Hands-on experience leading end-to-end quantitative research studies is required. Experience with mixed methods research is highly preferred.

  • A balance of creative and analytical skills with the ability to proactively define research questions, identify appropriate methods, execute studies, and synthesise findings.

  • Able to prioritise their efforts in line with business needs, and juggle multiple requests from different colleagues

  • Strong communicator with a bias toward action to proactively collaborate with multiple teams across the company

  • Strong storytelling and data synthesising skills

  • Can thrive in our unique culture

  • Self-starter and problem solver who loves “getting in the weeds” with quantitative data (including survey data, public “big data” repositories, and internal logged data).

  • Research experience in EMEA (including the Middle East and Africa) is preferred but not required

  • Business English required; a second EMEA language is beneficial
