A Day in the Life

The Principal IT Technologist is a hands-on individual contributor and technical peer leader and will work alongside other business- & functional analysts, gathering business requirements, performing detailed requirements analysis, developing technical architecture & design for solutions for our Quality Management Platforms in collaboration with enterprise solution-, integration- and data architects. The Technical Lead will be a pivotal member of our Quality Systems team and will provide clarity and guidance to the delivery team and will collaboratively work with stakeholders to drive solutions that meets the needs of business capabilities.


Must be able to lead design workshops and sessions with the development team. Solutions will need to be global, cross-operating unit, and cross-functional (Regulatory, Quality and IT). Should have good communication skills and be able to explain difficult concepts to non-technical users.

Work with other business functional analysts and business SME’s to collaborate on process definition, gathering of business requirements, and translating these with a view to a scalable design for future growth into well architected Electronic Quality Management Systems (eQMS) that help drive the digital transformation and continuous improvement of the technology that supports the quality of Medtronic’s products

  • Develops, documents, and configures systems specifications that conform to defined architecture standards, address business requirements, and processes.

  • Involved in planning of system and development deployment as well as responsible for meeting hardware and software compliance and security standards.

  • Evaluates interface between hardware and software, operational requirements and characteristics of overall system.

  • Establishes and documents system design, parameters and formats, ensures hardware and software systems functionality, performance and compatibility, and coordinates and/or modifies system parameters in terms of configurations, such as existing and projected computer capacity and capabilities.

  • Actively identifies system functionality or performance deficiencies, executes changes to existing systems, and tests functionality of the system to correct deficiencies and maintain more effective data handling, data integrity, conversion, input/output requirements, and storage.

  • May document testing and maintenance of system updates, modifications, and configurations.

  • May act as a liaison with key technology vendor technologists or other business functions.

  • Function Specific: Strategically design technology solutions that meets the needs and goals of the company and its customers/users.

  • Leverages platform process expertise to assess if existing standard platform functionality will solve a business problem or customization solution would be required.

  • Advanced Apex & Governance: Proven ability to develop, debug, and refactor complex Apex classes and triggers within a TrackWise Digital environment. Strong emphasis on Test-Driven Development (TDD) and a commitment to achieving ≥ 90% code coverage to ensure system stability.
  • Flow Orchestration: Hands-on experience troubleshooting and optimizing complex Salesforce Flows (Record-Triggered, Scheduled, and Screen Flows). Must demonstrate expertise in bulkification and strategies for governor-limit avoidance in high-data-volume environments.
  • Declarative vs. Programmatic Balance: Advanced skills in declarative configuration—including Validation Rules, Approval Processes, and Custom Metadata/Settings—to complement and augment custom Apex-based TWD solutions.

Advanced Salesforce DevOps & Release Management

  • Metadata Deployment: Mastery of Salesforce CLI (SFDX), Ant Migration Tool, or Change Sets to move custom fields, flows, and Apex without breaking the TWD managed package core.
  • CI/CD Pipeline Expertise: Experience using tools like Copado, Flosum, Gearset, or Azure DevOps to automate deployments across a multi-tier sandbox strategy (Dev → QA → UAT → Prod).
  • Sandbox Management: Ability to manage "Full" and "Partial" sandboxes, including the refreshing and seeding of data to ensure testing environments mirror Production as closely as possible.

TrackWise Digital & Industry Domain

  • TWD Implementation: Direct experience with large-scale, transformative projects specifically within TrackWise Digital (or high-complexity Salesforce Life Sciences solutions like Veeva Quality).

Solid understanding of Salesforce security model: Profiles, Permission Sets, Sharing Rules, and FLS/CRUD considerations, especially in regulated environments.
