Key Takeaways

  • 75% of U.S. employers use automated applicant tracking systems to screen resumes before a human reviews them (Harvard Business School & Accenture, 2021)
  • The most common ATS failures are missing keywords, incompatible formatting, and incorrect file types
  • ResumeGeni scores your resume across 8 parsing layers — modeled on the same steps enterprise ATS platforms like Workday, Greenhouse, and Taleo use to evaluate candidates

How ATS Resume Scoring Works

Applicant tracking systems parse your resume into structured data — extracting your name, contact info, work history, skills, and education — then score how well that data matches the job requirements. Many ATS rejections happen because the parser couldn't extract critical fields, not because the candidate wasn't qualified.

LayerWhat It ChecksWhy It Matters
Document extractionFile format, encoding, readabilityCorrupted or image-only PDFs fail immediately
Layout analysisTables, columns, headers, footersMulti-column layouts break field extraction
Section detectionExperience, education, skills headingsNon-standard headings cause sections to be missed
Field mappingName, email, phone, dates, titlesMissing contact info is a common cause of immediate rejection

Chronology checkDate ordering, gap detectionReverse-chronological order is expected by most ATS

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ResumeGeni free?
Yes. ResumeGeni is currently in beta — ATS analysis, scoring, and initial improvement suggestions are free with no signup required. Full guidance and saved reports may require a free account.
What file formats are supported?
PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, RTF, ODT, and Apple Pages. PDF and DOCX are recommended for best ATS compatibility.
How is the ATS score calculated?
Your resume is processed through an 8-layer parsing pipeline that extracts structured data the same way enterprise ATS platforms do. The score reflects how completely and accurately your resume can be parsed, plus how well your content matches common ATS ranking criteria.
Can ATS read PDF resumes?
Yes, but not all PDFs are equal. Text-based PDFs parse well. Image-only PDFs (scanned documents) and PDFs with complex tables or multi-column layouts often fail ATS parsing. Our analyzer will flag these issues.
How do I improve my ATS score?
Focus on three areas: use a clean single-column format, include keywords from the job description naturally in your experience bullets, and ensure all sections (contact, experience, education, skills) use standard headings.

Skip the coffee runs…
Calling all organizers, operators, and problem-solvers. This isn’t just an apprenticeship—it’s your launchpad into an impactful and differentiated learning experience.

Okay…We Know What You’re Thinking: So What?
Whether you’re a recent graduate eager to see how startups are built from the ground up, or a mid-career professional looking to pivot into high-growth product and venture environments, you’re probably searching for an opportunity that gives both real responsibility and unmatched exposure.

This role sits within the product team, alongside the Chief Product Officer, and goes far beyond sitting behind a desk managing timelines. You’ll help drive initiatives forward, coordinate complex workstreams, and ensure that ideas turn into action.
Even better? You’ll get front-row access to how decisions are made, joining the CPO in internal and external meetings, seeing venture building from 0 to 1, and observing how products, strategy, and execution come together.
You’ll also play a key role in helping discussions land and actions become clear — making sure priorities are understood, next steps are defined, and work actually gets done.
If you’re excited to operate at the intersection of execution and strategy, work closely with senior leaders, and gain exposure to venture building, product, and early-stage decision-making, this apprenticeship is built for you.

Alright, Alright, Let’s Get to the Good Stuff – Here’s What’s in It for You
At Liminal, we don’t offer traditional internships. Instead, we offer a 1-year Studio Apprenticeship Program where you get to be in the front seat working alongside experienced builders, diving into meaningful work.

Your All-Access Pass and Front Row Seats to Building Startups
No sold-out shows or VIP passes, BUT if you’re ready to drive execution, gain real exposure, and be part of how ventures are built, this is your scene.

What is Liminal?
Liminal is a Founders' Studio headquartered in Singapore and Boston.

We co-build with topflight founders by providing build expertise, unfair access, and funding to de-risk their journey from MVP to Series B and beyond.

What is the Role?
A Strategic Initiatives Apprentice sits within the product team and works closely with the Chief Product Officer to ensure that initiatives and projects move forward with clarity, alignment, and impact.

At its core, this is a hands-on execution role — you’ll coordinate workstreams, track deliverables, and make sure ideas actually turn into action. What makes this role unique is the level of exposure you get. You’ll join both internal and external meetings alongside the CPO, interact with founders, operators, and investors, and see firsthand how products, strategy, and ventures are built from 0 to 1.

This apprenticeship is ideal for individuals who want to:
  • build strong execution and operational skills
  • gain insight into venture building and early-stage decision-making
  • work directly with senior leaders
  • understand how products and startups are built end-to-end

Responsibilities
Execution & Delivery
  • Own and track timelines, deliverables, and priorities across multiple projects
  • Proactively follow up with stakeholders to ensure commitments are met
  • Identify bottlenecks early and help keep workstreams moving

Structure & Coordination
  • Maintain clear visibility across projects by organising updates, timelines, and next steps
  • Support the creation of simple, effective systems and workflows
  • Bring structure and clarity to fast-moving and ambiguous workstreams

Stakeholder Management
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to align on priorities and expectations
  • Prepare clear summaries, action items, and progress updates
  • Ensure alignment and follow-through across different teams

Exposure & Learning
  • Join selected internal and external meetings alongside the CPO
  • Gain exposure to venture building, product strategy, and investor conversations
  • Observe how senior leaders think, communicate, and make decisions
  • See firsthand how ideas translate into execution across the studio

Attributes We Are Looking For
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail — you naturally bring structure to chaos
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability — you follow through and get things done
  • Clear communicator — able to coordinate across stakeholders
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment
  • Proactive and resourceful — you don’t wait for instructions, you figure things out
  • Curious and eager to learn, especially in high-growth startup environments
  • Interest in strategy, operations, product, or startup execution
  • Excited by front-row exposure to senior leaders and venture building
