Key Takeaways

  • 75% of U.S. employers use automated applicant tracking systems to screen resumes before a human reviews them (Harvard Business School & Accenture, 2021)
  • The most common ATS failures are missing keywords, incompatible formatting, and incorrect file types
  • ResumeGeni scores your resume across 8 parsing layers — modeled on the same steps enterprise ATS platforms like Workday, Greenhouse, and Taleo use to evaluate candidates

How ATS Resume Scoring Works

Applicant tracking systems parse your resume into structured data — extracting your name, contact info, work history, skills, and education — then score how well that data matches the job requirements. Many ATS rejections happen because the parser couldn't extract critical fields, not because the candidate wasn't qualified.

LayerWhat It ChecksWhy It Matters

Layout analysisTables, columns, headers, footersMulti-column layouts break field extraction
Section detectionExperience, education, skills headingsNon-standard headings cause sections to be missed
Field mappingName, email, phone, dates, titlesMissing contact info is a common cause of immediate rejection
Keyword matchingJob-specific terms, skills, certificationsKeyword overlap affects recruiter search visibility and ATS scoring
Chronology checkDate ordering, gap detectionReverse-chronological order is expected by most ATS

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ResumeGeni free?
Yes. ResumeGeni is currently in beta — ATS analysis, scoring, and initial improvement suggestions are free with no signup required. Full guidance and saved reports may require a free account.
What file formats are supported?
PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, RTF, ODT, and Apple Pages. PDF and DOCX are recommended for best ATS compatibility.
How is the ATS score calculated?
Your resume is processed through an 8-layer parsing pipeline that extracts structured data the same way enterprise ATS platforms do. The score reflects how completely and accurately your resume can be parsed, plus how well your content matches common ATS ranking criteria.
Can ATS read PDF resumes?
Yes, but not all PDFs are equal. Text-based PDFs parse well. Image-only PDFs (scanned documents) and PDFs with complex tables or multi-column layouts often fail ATS parsing. Our analyzer will flag these issues.
How do I improve my ATS score?
Focus on three areas: use a clean single-column format, include keywords from the job description naturally in your experience bullets, and ensure all sections (contact, experience, education, skills) use standard headings.

LayerZero

The Future is Omnichain.

Founded in 2021, LayerZero’s vision is to create a community of cross-chain developers, building dApps that are no longer constrained by individual blockchain capabilities. With LayerZero's simple, generic messaging protocol, builders will develop cross-chain dApps designed to unify the power of individual blockchains.

We are funded by the best investors in the world including:

a16z, Sequoia, PayPal, Binance Ventures, Coinbase Ventures, Uniswap Labs, Circle Ventures, Delphi Digital, and many more.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re building the next generation of talent at LayerZero. As our Technical Recruiter, you’ll be one of the first people candidates meet—and one of the most critical. You’ll help shape the future of our engineering teams, identify world-class talent across frontier tech domains, and design candidate journeys that are fast, rigorous, and deeply aligned to our values.

This role is based full-time in our Vancouver, BC office.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Own full-cycle recruiting for technical roles across LayerZero: sourcing, screening, coordinating, and closing
  • Partner directly with hiring managers and engineers to define role profiles, build pipelines, and calibrate signal
  • Craft bespoke outbound strategies tailored to high-caliber candidates (think Principal Engineers, Compiler Experts, Core Infra Builders)
  • Deliver high-quality candidate experiences at pace—speed matters, but quality matters more
  • Run structured, signal-rich interviews and guide interviewers through calibration and debriefs
  • Become a system builder: help scale and improve how we run recruiting, not just run reqs

ABOUT YOU

  • You’ve recruited for deeply technical roles before (backend, infra, systems, protocol, Rust)
  • You know how to write compelling outbound that gets replies—and understand how to tailor messaging across profiles
  • You’re comfortable assessing resumes, probing for signal, and escalating red flags early
  • You care about candidate experience, but not at the expense of rigor
  • You’re motivated by impact: you want to help define the DNA of an engineering org at the frontier

Bonus Points

  • You’ve hired in early-stage environments before (0→1 recruiting muscle)
  • You’re fluent in Web3, or technical enough to ramp quickly
  • You’ve run debriefs, driven interviewer training, or contributed to rubric design
