Key Takeaways

  • 75% of U.S. employers use automated applicant tracking systems to screen resumes before a human reviews them (Harvard Business School & Accenture, 2021)
  • The most common ATS failures are missing keywords, incompatible formatting, and incorrect file types
  • ResumeGeni scores your resume across 8 parsing layers — modeled on the same steps enterprise ATS platforms like Workday, Greenhouse, and Taleo use to evaluate candidates

How ATS Resume Scoring Works

Applicant tracking systems parse your resume into structured data — extracting your name, contact info, work history, skills, and education — then score how well that data matches the job requirements. Many ATS rejections happen because the parser couldn't extract critical fields, not because the candidate wasn't qualified.

LayerWhat It ChecksWhy It Matters
Document extractionFile format, encoding, readabilityCorrupted or image-only PDFs fail immediately
Layout analysisTables, columns, headers, footersMulti-column layouts break field extraction
Section detectionExperience, education, skills headingsNon-standard headings cause sections to be missed
Field mappingName, email, phone, dates, titlesMissing contact info is a common cause of immediate rejection
Keyword matchingJob-specific terms, skills, certificationsKeyword overlap affects recruiter search visibility and ATS scoring
Chronology checkDate ordering, gap detectionReverse-chronological order is expected by most ATS

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ResumeGeni free?
Yes. ResumeGeni is currently in beta — ATS analysis, scoring, and initial improvement suggestions are free with no signup required. Full guidance and saved reports may require a free account.
What file formats are supported?
PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, RTF, ODT, and Apple Pages. PDF and DOCX are recommended for best ATS compatibility.
How is the ATS score calculated?
Your resume is processed through an 8-layer parsing pipeline that extracts structured data the same way enterprise ATS platforms do. The score reflects how completely and accurately your resume can be parsed, plus how well your content matches common ATS ranking criteria.
Can ATS read PDF resumes?
Yes, but not all PDFs are equal. Text-based PDFs parse well. Image-only PDFs (scanned documents) and PDFs with complex tables or multi-column layouts often fail ATS parsing. Our analyzer will flag these issues.
How do I improve my ATS score?
Focus on three areas: use a clean single-column format, include keywords from the job description naturally in your experience bullets, and ensure all sections (contact, experience, education, skills) use standard headings.

Measurement Lead

Kard Financial · Remote

Kard is transforming customer loyalty with our rewards-as-a-service API platform. We empower our partners, from neobanks to financial institutions and beyond, to offer tailored rewards that celebrate customers' daily transactions. Backed by $30M from industry-leading investors and seasoned experts, we are reshaping the future of customer engagement.

About the Role

Kard's data team has built a strong measurement foundation and automated much of the repeatable work. Now we need someone senior enough to own what can't be automated: the high-stakes customer conversations where nuance, credibility, and judgment determine outcomes. As Measurement Lead, you’ll be the person our sales and account team turns to when a merchant has questions about their campaign results, when an issuer needs to understand impression attribution, or when the data doesn’t tell a clear story.

This is a hands-on senior role. You'll write SQL, dig into dashboards, and investigate data questions directly — because we've built the data org around automation and engineering, not manual analyst headcount, and this work calls for someone with the judgment to match. Reporting to the CTO, you'll sit at the intersection of Data Science, Analytics Engineering, Product, and GTM, and you'll carry the field's voice back to the teams building our measurement products.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret lift measurement test results quickly, and codify internal understanding by educating and consulting GTM stakeholders on the results.
  • Own high-priority measurement conversations with merchant and issuer partners, translating complex results into clear, credible external narratives tailored to the audience.
  • Serve as GTM's trusted advisor on ambiguous, data-intensive customer questions, engaging engaging clearly and credibly with our sophisticated and highly analytical marketing clients.
  • Write SQL and work directly in data to investigate performance, validate hypotheses, and support customer and GTM needs.
  • Build dashboards, visualizations, and lightweight reporting tools that help GTM and customers successfully pull and interpret results directly
  • Collaborate with Data Science to refine Kard's measurement approach, including experimentation design, incrementality methodology, and reporting frameworks.
  • Develop deep fluency in Kard's reporting, product behavior, and business model so you can answer questions with sound judgment — not scripts.
  • Identify patterns in recurring measurement questions and improve workflows, tooling, and handoffs between GTM and the data org.
  • Surface reporting and tooling gaps to Product and Engineering, representing what the field actually needs.

Desired Skills

  • 5–8 years in measurement, analytics, consulting, or partner-facing data roles — ideally in adtech, martech, fintech, or marketplaces.
  • Strong fluency in measurement concepts: experimentation, incrementality, attribution, and a clear-eyed view of what different methods can and cannot say.
  • Solid SQL skills and comfort working directly in BI tools to build or manipulate dashboards and visualizations.
  • Excellent judgment in ambiguous situations — you think on your feet and respond calmly to hard questions.
  • Ability to communicate complex analytical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, including analytically sophisticated external stakeholders.
  • A practical, creative problem solver with strong commercial instincts and intellectual honesty.
  • Experience partnering closely with revenue teams and helping them win with customers.
  • Collaborative and enthusiastic about working across Data Science, Analytics Engineering, Product, and GTM.
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or related field.
  • U.S. core business hours availability and willingness to travel for company meetings.
