Position Function 

The Social Media Manager (SMM) is responsible for the day-to-day efforts in bringing the U.S. Air Force and Space Force Recruiting social media program to life in-platform, with guidance and support. The SMM plays a key role in owning the social presence by creating social-first content, publishing across social channels, and identifying opportunities to connect to the larger internet culture and potential U.S Air Force and Space Force Recruits. To succeed in this role, you must have a passion for social media and the ability to leverage your deep understanding of the landscape into impactful storytelling social content. 

You must be a team player, a clear communicator, with a high attention to detail and always on the lookout for improved and innovative creative solutions. The SMM will be part of the broader social media team within the Consumer Engagement Group. 

 

Responsibilities and Essential Duties

  • Assists strategists in the development and implementation of monthly content calendar
  • Owns content ideation, asset sourcing and high volume of copy development for military component
  • Owns the process of scheduling and publishing content to social channels
  • Collaborates closely with content creator team to concept and develop social-first content for content calendars that ensures social voice and maintains brand guidelines
  • Manages the day-to-day brand activity on social channels and ensures all content is published without issue
  • Demonstrates understanding and experience developing fundamentals of social media strategies including audience, channel, content, brand guidelines and voice
  • Provides thought-leadership, strategic guidance, proactive key learnings and industry best practices for social content creation and campaigns
  • Develop POVs on a range of social topics as needed
  • Monitor trends in social media channels to inform social content strategy and creation
  • Leverages social media listening tools (when applicable) to inform/inspire optimal social content and engagement strategies
  • Identify opportunities to proactively engage with relevant industry influencers, events and trending topics on social media
  • Leverages brand social performance data/reporting to drive continuous optimization

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of experience in ideating and creating content for social (can be a mix of full-time roles and internships)
  • Fluent across a variety of social channels as an active and passionate participant
  • Strong storytelling and copywriting experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and Microsoft Office/SharePoint
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills are a must

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Sprinklr/Khoros/Hootsuite or similar social management suite a plus
  • Video editing and graphic design skills are strongly preferred
  • Technical understanding and ability to pick up new tools quickly
  • Understanding of social listening and query building
  • Operates according to deadlines while executing multiple projects
  • Ability to change priorities and pivot to emerging urgent tasks
  • Proactive in managing expectations of supervisors
  • Routinely takes initiative to improve process/workflow/methodologies
