Key Takeaways

  • 75% of U.S. employers use automated applicant tracking systems to screen resumes before a human reviews them (Harvard Business School & Accenture, 2021)
  • The most common ATS failures are missing keywords, incompatible formatting, and incorrect file types
  • ResumeGeni scores your resume across 8 parsing layers — modeled on the same steps enterprise ATS platforms like Workday, Greenhouse, and Taleo use to evaluate candidates

How ATS Resume Scoring Works

Applicant tracking systems parse your resume into structured data — extracting your name, contact info, work history, skills, and education — then score how well that data matches the job requirements. Many ATS rejections happen because the parser couldn't extract critical fields, not because the candidate wasn't qualified.

Layout analysisTables, columns, headers, footersMulti-column layouts break field extraction
Section detectionExperience, education, skills headingsNon-standard headings cause sections to be missed
Field mappingName, email, phone, dates, titlesMissing contact info is a common cause of immediate rejection

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ResumeGeni free?
Yes. ResumeGeni is currently in beta — ATS analysis, scoring, and initial improvement suggestions are free with no signup required. Full guidance and saved reports may require a free account.
What file formats are supported?
PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, RTF, ODT, and Apple Pages. PDF and DOCX are recommended for best ATS compatibility.
How is the ATS score calculated?
Your resume is processed through an 8-layer parsing pipeline that extracts structured data the same way enterprise ATS platforms do. The score reflects how completely and accurately your resume can be parsed, plus how well your content matches common ATS ranking criteria.
Can ATS read PDF resumes?
Yes, but not all PDFs are equal. Text-based PDFs parse well. Image-only PDFs (scanned documents) and PDFs with complex tables or multi-column layouts often fail ATS parsing. Our analyzer will flag these issues.
How do I improve my ATS score?
Focus on three areas: use a clean single-column format, include keywords from the job description naturally in your experience bullets, and ensure all sections (contact, experience, education, skills) use standard headings.

Product Designer

Fitt · Montreal

Fitt Talent Partners is a specialized recruitment firm working with top health and wellness companies.

We’re filling this role for a client building a consumer health platform that measures and interprets hormone and biomarker data, translating complex physiological insights into personalized guidance through a mobile app designed to help people better understand and take action on their health.

About the Role

We’re looking for our first Product Designer to own the end-to-end design experience for a consumer health platform that helps people better understand their bodies through real-time biomarker insights.

This is a foundational hire. You won’t be joining an established design team—you’ll be helping build the design practice from the ground up while working closely with product, engineering, and clinical stakeholders.

Our product team is small and operates with high ownership. You’ll function as a design lead with strong product instincts, shaping what gets built and why. This means driving decisions, influencing the roadmap, and owning features from discovery through delivery.

You’ll be as comfortable conducting user interviews as you are refining pixel-perfect product interactions.

Montreal-based preferred. Open to exceptional U.S.-based candidates working remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end product design lifecycle across mobile applications (iOS and Android), from research and concept exploration to high-fidelity design, prototyping, and QA

  • Operate as a design lead within a small product team, helping shape product direction and prioritization

  • Build and evolve a scalable design system to ensure consistency across platforms as the product grows

  • Conduct and synthesize customer research, speaking directly with users to understand needs, pain points, and behaviors in sensitive health contexts

  • Translate complex health and biomarker data into intuitive, human-centered product experiences

  • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and domain experts to ship thoughtful and effective product features

  • Leverage modern AI-assisted design tools to accelerate workflows and explore concepts more efficiently

  • Champion design quality and craft across the organization

What We're Looking For

  • 7+ years of product design experience, with a strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end mobile product design for both iOS and Android

  • Experience designing consumer healthcare, health tech, or digital wellness products, with an understanding of the trust and sensitivity required in health contexts

  • Proven experience building or scaling design systems, ideally from early stages

  • Strong product thinking—able to connect user needs, business goals, and technical constraints to make thoughtful design decisions

  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity and ownership in an early-stage environment

  • Experience working cross-functionally with product, engineering, and research teams

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly present work and align stakeholders

Nice to Have

  • Experience as a founding or first designer at an early-stage startup

  • Background in data visualization or designing for complex data (biosensors, wearables, quantified-self tools)

  • Experience with connected hardware and software product ecosystems

  • Experience working in bilingual product environments

  • Portfolio work that demonstrates a blend of product design and brand sensibility

Why Join

  • Work on technology designed to help people better understand and improve their health over time

  • Join a small, high-performing team where your work directly shapes the product and company trajectory

  • Operate in an early-stage environment with high ownership and autonomy

  • Flexible schedules and a culture that prioritizes focus and thoughtful work
