Key Takeaways

  • 75% of U.S. employers use automated applicant tracking systems to screen resumes before a human reviews them (Harvard Business School & Accenture, 2021)
  • The most common ATS failures are missing keywords, incompatible formatting, and incorrect file types
  • ResumeGeni scores your resume across 8 parsing layers — modeled on the same steps enterprise ATS platforms like Workday, Greenhouse, and Taleo use to evaluate candidates

How ATS Resume Scoring Works

Applicant tracking systems parse your resume into structured data — extracting your name, contact info, work history, skills, and education — then score how well that data matches the job requirements. Many ATS rejections happen because the parser couldn't extract critical fields, not because the candidate wasn't qualified.

Layout analysisTables, columns, headers, footersMulti-column layouts break field extraction
Section detectionExperience, education, skills headingsNon-standard headings cause sections to be missed
Field mappingName, email, phone, dates, titlesMissing contact info is a common cause of immediate rejection

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ResumeGeni free?
Yes. ResumeGeni is currently in beta — ATS analysis, scoring, and initial improvement suggestions are free with no signup required. Full guidance and saved reports may require a free account.
What file formats are supported?
PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, RTF, ODT, and Apple Pages. PDF and DOCX are recommended for best ATS compatibility.
How is the ATS score calculated?
Your resume is processed through an 8-layer parsing pipeline that extracts structured data the same way enterprise ATS platforms do. The score reflects how completely and accurately your resume can be parsed, plus how well your content matches common ATS ranking criteria.
Can ATS read PDF resumes?
Yes, but not all PDFs are equal. Text-based PDFs parse well. Image-only PDFs (scanned documents) and PDFs with complex tables or multi-column layouts often fail ATS parsing. Our analyzer will flag these issues.
How do I improve my ATS score?
Focus on three areas: use a clean single-column format, include keywords from the job description naturally in your experience bullets, and ensure all sections (contact, experience, education, skills) use standard headings.

Director, Father Insurance Group

Fartherfinance · Hybrid - San Francisco

Company Description

Farther is a rapidly growing RIA that combines expert advisors with cutting-edge technology - delivering a comprehensive, tailored wealth management experience.

Farther’s founders are leaders and innovators from the private wealth industry who possess a unique blend of traditional wealth management, fintech, and technology production expertise. We’re backed by top-tier venture capital firms, fintech investors, and industry leaders.

Joining Farther means joining a collaborative team of entrepreneurs who are passionate about helping their clients and our teammates achieve more. If you’re the type who breaks through walls to get things done the right way, we want to build the future of wealth management with you.

The Role

Farther is building insurance the right way — fully integrated, advisor-driven, and built for the complexity of high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients. The Head of Insurance will own the strategy and execution of Farther's national insurance offering, leading the buildout of a centralized desk that gives advisors the product access, case design support, and tech-enabled processes they need to deliver real client value.

We're looking for a seasoned insurance leader who knows how to operate at the intersection of protection planning, advisory services, and technology — someone who can shape the vision, earn advisor trust, and build a business line that lasts.

Your Impact

  • Build and lead Farther's national insurance desk — designing the model, standing it up, and scaling it to support hundreds of advisors across the country
  • Own the product shelf: curate a preferred lineup of insurance products (IUL, LTC, VUL, annuities, disability) that actually fit our UHNW and HNW client base
  • Negotiate and manage relationships with carriers, BGAs, and technology vendors
  • Integrate insurance into Farther's broader planning ecosystem — making protection a core part of our estate planning, tax strategy, and comprehensive wealth management offering
  • Build and run advisor training and enablement programs so advisors can confidently incorporate insurance into client conversations
  • Own the P&L: manage revenue sharing, overrides, and profitability targets for the FIG business unit
  • Drive adoption of insurance tech platforms that improve the end-to-end advisor and client experience
  • Establish compliance and governance frameworks in partnership with Legal and Operations
  • Set up reporting infrastructure — KPIs, dashboards, and analytics tracking adoption, production, and client impact
  • Eventually hire and build a team of licensed specialists, case designers, and ops staff to scale the platform

The Ideal Match

  • 10+ years in insurance leadership within a national RIA, broker-dealer, or large financial institution
  • Deep product expertise across life, annuities, LTC, and disability — and how they integrate with holistic financial planning
  • Proven experience building an insurance org or desk from the ground up, not just managing one that already exists
  • Active Life & Health license; familiarity with compliance and regulatory requirements in an RIA/BD context
  • Track record of getting advisors engaged — you've built training programs, driven adoption, and made insurance a part of advisor workflows

Bonus Point

  • Experience at the intersection of broker-dealer and RIA structures
  • FINRA Series 6, 7, or 65/66
  • Advanced credentials (CLU®, ChFC®, CFP®, MBA)
  • Hands-on experience with insurance tech platforms (iPipeline, Annuity Rate Watch, digital underwriting tools)
