Key Takeaways

  • 75% of U.S. employers use automated applicant tracking systems to screen resumes before a human reviews them (Harvard Business School & Accenture, 2021)
  • The most common ATS failures are missing keywords, incompatible formatting, and incorrect file types
  • ResumeGeni scores your resume across 8 parsing layers — modeled on the same steps enterprise ATS platforms like Workday, Greenhouse, and Taleo use to evaluate candidates

How ATS Resume Scoring Works

Applicant tracking systems parse your resume into structured data — extracting your name, contact info, work history, skills, and education — then score how well that data matches the job requirements. Many ATS rejections happen because the parser couldn't extract critical fields, not because the candidate wasn't qualified.

LayerWhat It ChecksWhy It Matters

Layout analysisTables, columns, headers, footersMulti-column layouts break field extraction
Section detectionExperience, education, skills headingsNon-standard headings cause sections to be missed
Field mappingName, email, phone, dates, titlesMissing contact info is a common cause of immediate rejection

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ResumeGeni free?
Yes. ResumeGeni is currently in beta — ATS analysis, scoring, and initial improvement suggestions are free with no signup required. Full guidance and saved reports may require a free account.
What file formats are supported?
PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, RTF, ODT, and Apple Pages. PDF and DOCX are recommended for best ATS compatibility.
How is the ATS score calculated?
Your resume is processed through an 8-layer parsing pipeline that extracts structured data the same way enterprise ATS platforms do. The score reflects how completely and accurately your resume can be parsed, plus how well your content matches common ATS ranking criteria.
Can ATS read PDF resumes?
Yes, but not all PDFs are equal. Text-based PDFs parse well. Image-only PDFs (scanned documents) and PDFs with complex tables or multi-column layouts often fail ATS parsing. Our analyzer will flag these issues.
How do I improve my ATS score?
Focus on three areas: use a clean single-column format, include keywords from the job description naturally in your experience bullets, and ensure all sections (contact, experience, education, skills) use standard headings.

About the role

We’re looking for our first Product Designer—someone who will own the end-to-end design experience for a product that millions of people will use to understand their bodies. This is a foundational hire. You won’t be slotting into an existing design org; you’ll be building the design practice from the ground up alongside other designers in the organization.

Our product squad is small and has high ownership. You’ll function as a design lead with the mindset of a product manager—driving decisions, shaping the roadmap, and owning features from discovery through delivery. You’ll be as comfortable running a customer interview as you are refining a pixel-perfect interaction.

This role is based in Montréal, QC. We’re open to remote candidates for the right person.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the product design lifecycle for Eli’s mobile applications (iOS and Android)—from user research and concept exploration to high-fidelity design, prototyping, and QA.

  • Operate as a design lead within a small product squad. You’ll drive design decisions with the strategic thinking of a product manager, shaping what we build and why.

  • Build, maintain, and evolve a unified design system that scales across platforms and ensures consistency as the product grows.

  • Conduct and synthesize customer research. Speak directly with users to uncover pain points, validate concepts, and develop a deep, nuanced understanding of the consumer—particularly in sensitive health contexts.

  • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and clinical stakeholders to translate complex health data into intuitive, human-centered experiences.

  • Leverage AI-powered design tools (Figma AI, generative prototyping, etc.) to accelerate workflows, explore more concepts faster, and continuously raise the bar on design output.

  • Champion design quality and craft across the organization, setting the standard for how Eli Health shows up to its users.

What You Bring

  • 7+ years of product design experience, with a strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end mobile app design for both iOS and Android.

  • Deep experience in consumer healthcare, health tech, or digital wellness—you understand the sensitivity, regulatory nuance, and trust required when designing for health.

  • Proven track record of building and scaling design systems from scratch or early stages.

  • Strong product sense. You think beyond pixels—you understand business goals, user psychology, and technical constraints, and you use that context to make better design decisions.

  • Comfort with ambiguity and ownership. You thrive in environments where you’re defining the path, not following a playbook.

  • Proficiency with modern AI design tools and a genuine curiosity about how emerging technology can improve design performance and velocity.

  • Excellent communication skills with a natural ability to present work, articulate rationale, and align stakeholders—from engineers to executives.

  • Empathy and nuance. You’re comfortable speaking directly with customers and translating their needs into thoughtful product experiences.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in a founding or first-designer role at an early-stage or growth-stage company.

  • Background in data visualization or designing for complex, real-time data (biosensors, wearables, quantified-self).

  • Familiarity with connected hardware/software product experiences.

  • Experience working in bilingual (English/French) product environments.

  • Portfolio work that demonstrates a blend of product design and marketing or brand design sensibility.

Why you’ll love working at Eli:

  • You’ll work with a group of talented and mission-driven people eager to improve lifelong health at scale.

  • You’ll be part of the core team developing and commercializing the first product that monitors hormonal data daily and over a lifetime.

  • You’ll join the early-stage startup phase and have a wide-reaching impact in a constantly evolving, fast-paced environment.

  • You’ll be part of a small (<20 people), high-performing, and diverse team where everything you do results in tangible impact and shapes the company’s trajectory.

  • You’ll be in an environment where people drive their own work, think creatively about open-ended problems, and solve them proactively.

  • You’ll get health insurance (medical, dental, vision, and more) to ensure you and your family stay physically and mentally at your best.

  • You’ll have flexibility over your schedule and vacations. We seek to hire great people, then give them the autonomy and space they need to achieve their goals.

  • Although our office and R&D facilities are in Montreal, we have a distributed team. We prioritize asynchronous workflows and minimize meetings to focus on the work itself.

  • You and your +1 will have unlimited free access to the Bota Bota spa in Montreal to recharge.
