Key Takeaways

  • 75% of U.S. employers use automated applicant tracking systems to screen resumes before a human reviews them (Harvard Business School & Accenture, 2021)
  • The most common ATS failures are missing keywords, incompatible formatting, and incorrect file types
  • ResumeGeni scores your resume across 8 parsing layers — modeled on the same steps enterprise ATS platforms like Workday, Greenhouse, and Taleo use to evaluate candidates

How ATS Resume Scoring Works

Applicant tracking systems parse your resume into structured data — extracting your name, contact info, work history, skills, and education — then score how well that data matches the job requirements. Many ATS rejections happen because the parser couldn't extract critical fields, not because the candidate wasn't qualified.

LayerWhat It ChecksWhy It Matters
Document extractionFile format, encoding, readabilityCorrupted or image-only PDFs fail immediately
Layout analysisTables, columns, headers, footersMulti-column layouts break field extraction
Section detectionExperience, education, skills headingsNon-standard headings cause sections to be missed
Field mappingName, email, phone, dates, titlesMissing contact info is a common cause of immediate rejection
Keyword matchingJob-specific terms, skills, certificationsKeyword overlap affects recruiter search visibility and ATS scoring
Chronology checkDate ordering, gap detectionReverse-chronological order is expected by most ATS
QuantificationMetrics, numbers, measurable outcomesQuantified achievements help human reviewers and some scoring models

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ResumeGeni free?
Yes. ResumeGeni is currently in beta — ATS analysis, scoring, and initial improvement suggestions are free with no signup required. Full guidance and saved reports may require a free account.
What file formats are supported?
PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, RTF, ODT, and Apple Pages. PDF and DOCX are recommended for best ATS compatibility.
How is the ATS score calculated?
Your resume is processed through an 8-layer parsing pipeline that extracts structured data the same way enterprise ATS platforms do. The score reflects how completely and accurately your resume can be parsed, plus how well your content matches common ATS ranking criteria.
Can ATS read PDF resumes?
Yes, but not all PDFs are equal. Text-based PDFs parse well. Image-only PDFs (scanned documents) and PDFs with complex tables or multi-column layouts often fail ATS parsing. Our analyzer will flag these issues.
How do I improve my ATS score?
Focus on three areas: use a clean single-column format, include keywords from the job description naturally in your experience bullets, and ensure all sections (contact, experience, education, skills) use standard headings.

This is Cradle

Proteins are the molecular machines of life, used for many therapeutic, diagnostic, chemical, agricultural and food applications. Designing and optimizing proteins takes a lot of expert knowledge and manual effort, through the use of custom computational and biological tools.

Machine learning is revolutionizing this space, by enabling high-fidelity protein models. At Cradle, we offer a software platform for AI-guided discovery and optimization of proteins, so that biologists can design proteins faster and at scale. We are already used by clients across biopharma, biotech, agri-tech, food-tech, and academia.

We're an experienced team of around 75 people. We've built many successful products before and have enough funding for multiple years of runway. We are distributed across two main locations, Zurich and Amsterdam, and are focused on building the best possible team culture.

We offer our employees a very competitive salary, a generous equity stake in the company and a wide range of benefits and career progression opportunities.

Your Role

As Cradle Academy Developer, you'll spearhead building Cradle Academy: the educational foundation that empowers scientists to master protein engineering with AI. You'll create the curriculum, content, and hands-on learning experiences that transform how researchers adopt and succeed with Cradle's platform, from their first onboarding session through advanced applications.

Your work will help to scale scientific enablement across Cradle’s user base of wet lab and computational protein scientists. You'll work closely with Customer Success, Sales, Product and Machine Learning Research teams to produce accessible technical guides, instructional content, build practical demo environments, design interactive workshops, and establish best practices that accelerate time-to-value for computational and experimental scientists alike.

Through your work, Cradle Academy will ensure that every scientist - regardless of their computational background - can confidently design better proteins with Cradle.

Your Responsibilities

Content Development and Curriculum Design

  • Design and deliver comprehensive onboarding curricula that bring new users from platform basics to confident, independent usage

  • Create high-quality educational materials including step-by-step technical guides, video tutorials, explainer content, and interactive workshops

  • Establish and maintain documentation standards that ensure content remains current, accurate, and scientifically rigorous

  • Create interactive sandbox environments where scientists can self-educate and experiment with Cradle's platform in a low-stakes setting.

  • Work with Product teams to create educational content for new features and capabilities. Collaborate with Scientific Solutions Consultants and Scientific Advisors to design and maintain demo projects and datasets that provide realistic, hands-on learning experiences.

  • Develop troubleshooting guides and common scenario playbooks that help users overcome typical obstacles

  • Develop role-specific learning paths for different user personas (experimental biologists, computational scientists, program leaders)

  • Develop certification or milestone programs that recognize user proficiency and encourage ongoing skill development

Program Delivery and Community Building

  • Lead live training sessions, workshops, and webinars for customers and internal teams

  • Foster a community of practice by creating forums for users to share learnings and best practices

  • Gather feedback from learners to continuously improve educational content and delivery methods

Your Qualifications

Must-haves

  • MSc or PhD in Structural / Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics or a related field

  • 3–5+ years of experience creating educational content or technical training in life sciences, biotech, or scientific software

  • Basic proficiency in data analysis using Python and relevant data science libraries (pandas, scikit, scipy, matplotlib, etc.)

  • Familiarity with AI-guided protein design methods such as Protein Language Models, Structure-based models, Inverse folding, etc. Hands-on experience using these methods is a plus.

  • Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, engaging learning experiences for diverse audiences

  • Experience designing curricula or training programs from the ground up, with measurable learning outcomes

  • Excellent visual and written communication skills, with portfolio examples of tutorials, guides, videos, or workshop materials you've created

  • Comfort with learning management systems, video production tools, and modern educational technology

  • Self-directed work style with strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple content projects simultaneously

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior teaching or scientific training experience in academic or industry settings

  • Background in instructional design principles and adult learning theory

  • Experience building developer education programs, learning labs, or technical academies

  • Familiarity with protein design, directed evolution, or AI/ML applications in drug discovery

  • Experience producing professional video content and screencasts

  • Knowledge of modern e-learning platforms and content management systems
