Key Takeaways

  • 75% of U.S. employers use automated applicant tracking systems to screen resumes before a human reviews them (Harvard Business School & Accenture, 2021)
  • The most common ATS failures are missing keywords, incompatible formatting, and incorrect file types
  • ResumeGeni scores your resume across 8 parsing layers — modeled on the same steps enterprise ATS platforms like Workday, Greenhouse, and Taleo use to evaluate candidates

How ATS Resume Scoring Works

Applicant tracking systems parse your resume into structured data — extracting your name, contact info, work history, skills, and education — then score how well that data matches the job requirements. Many ATS rejections happen because the parser couldn't extract critical fields, not because the candidate wasn't qualified.

LayerWhat It ChecksWhy It Matters
Document extractionFile format, encoding, readabilityCorrupted or image-only PDFs fail immediately
Layout analysisTables, columns, headers, footersMulti-column layouts break field extraction
Section detectionExperience, education, skills headingsNon-standard headings cause sections to be missed
Field mappingName, email, phone, dates, titlesMissing contact info is a common cause of immediate rejection
Keyword matchingJob-specific terms, skills, certificationsKeyword overlap affects recruiter search visibility and ATS scoring
Chronology checkDate ordering, gap detectionReverse-chronological order is expected by most ATS

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ResumeGeni free?
Yes. ResumeGeni is currently in beta — ATS analysis, scoring, and initial improvement suggestions are free with no signup required. Full guidance and saved reports may require a free account.
What file formats are supported?
PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, RTF, ODT, and Apple Pages. PDF and DOCX are recommended for best ATS compatibility.
How is the ATS score calculated?
Your resume is processed through an 8-layer parsing pipeline that extracts structured data the same way enterprise ATS platforms do. The score reflects how completely and accurately your resume can be parsed, plus how well your content matches common ATS ranking criteria.
Can ATS read PDF resumes?
Yes, but not all PDFs are equal. Text-based PDFs parse well. Image-only PDFs (scanned documents) and PDFs with complex tables or multi-column layouts often fail ATS parsing. Our analyzer will flag these issues.
How do I improve my ATS score?
Focus on three areas: use a clean single-column format, include keywords from the job description naturally in your experience bullets, and ensure all sections (contact, experience, education, skills) use standard headings.

DX/AX Engineer

Blaxel · San Francisco

About Blaxel

Blaxel is the perpetual sandbox platform for AI agents that need to run code fast. We let you keep infinite, secure code sandboxes on automatic standby while co-hosting your agents for near instant latency. This is enabled by our own technical backbone: a 25ms cold-start serverless compute engine.

Now processing billions of requests, we power the coding agents and background AIs for top AI startups & scaleups like Webflow or HumanBehavior. We solve the agentic infrastructure problems that traditional clouds aren’t built for, such has running AI code securely, statefully and with ultra-low latency — so that AI companies can focus on building generational products.

We raised a $7.3M seed round, led by First Round Capital.

The role

We're looking for a world-class Developer Experience Engineer to define and own the developer experience for our groundbreaking AI infrastructure across all interfaces, features and products.

You'll be fundamentally designing how developers (and AI agents) interact with our platform. Your mission is to obsessively drive down the time, frustration, and effort it takes our users to go from "what is this?" to "wow, this is powerful.".

Your user isn't just human. You will be a pioneer of Agentic Experience (AX), designing interfaces so seamless and clever that AI agents can consume our platform as easily as developers. If you are a builder who believes that a world-class DX is a product's most critical feature and are excited to define it for a new category of cloud computing, this role is for you.

What you'll do

  • Design, build, and improve the developer experience across all platform interfaces, including maintaining our CLI, SDKs, and MCP servers that make our platform a joy to use.

  • Obsess over API parameter naming and error message clarity to the logical flow of our documentation and guides.

  • Actively design and implement clever interfaces and protocols optimized for consumption by AI agents, not just human developers.

  • Define and track key DX/AX metrics, relentlessly measuring and improving "time to aha moment," "time to successful implementation," and overall platform adoption.

  • Work closely with our Developer Advocate to gather user feedback and translate it into actionable engineering and product improvements.

Who you are

  • A DX fanatic: You have a proven track record of owning and dramatically improving developer experience at a top-tier, developer-first platform (e.g., Vercel, Render, Fly.io, GCP).

  • A builder and an architect: You are a strong software engineer who isn't afraid to dive deep into the codebase to build new SDKs, improve a CLI, or refactor an API for clarity.

  • Proficient in Python, TypeScript, and Go: You have strong development skills across these three languages.

  • Deeply AI fluent: You understand the emerging patterns of agentic AI. You're excited by the challenge of designing interfaces for agents, not just humans.

  • User-obsessed: You possess deep empathy for developers. You feel physical pain when you see a confusing API, a bad error message, or a convoluted user flow.

  • An execution machine: You have a bias for action and a proven track record of shipping. You thrive on a high-velocity, results-oriented team. Ideally, you’ve even been a founder and built your own product and brought it to market.

Why us?

  • Build a category: You'll be shaping the user experience for a new category of cloud computing, at the cutting-edge of AI infrastructure. The playbook for AX (agentic experience) in infrastructure has yet to be written. You'll help us get appealing to the top 1% of AI companies of our generation, from Lovable to HuggingFace.

  • Direct impact & autonomy: As a key member of a founders-led team, your work will directly impact our growth trajectory. You'll have the autonomy to design things your way, with the full backing of the founders.

  • A-List backing & resources: We're backed by the best in the business (First Round, YC repeat founders), giving us the resources and network to build a generation-defining company.

  • Competitive compensation: We offer a top-tier salary and comprehensive benefits, as well as some equity. We are invested in your success.
