Key Takeaways

  • 75% of U.S. employers use automated applicant tracking systems to screen resumes before a human reviews them (Harvard Business School & Accenture, 2021)
  • The most common ATS failures are missing keywords, incompatible formatting, and incorrect file types
  • ResumeGeni scores your resume across 8 parsing layers — modeled on the same steps enterprise ATS platforms like Workday, Greenhouse, and Taleo use to evaluate candidates

How ATS Resume Scoring Works

Applicant tracking systems parse your resume into structured data — extracting your name, contact info, work history, skills, and education — then score how well that data matches the job requirements. Many ATS rejections happen because the parser couldn't extract critical fields, not because the candidate wasn't qualified.

LayerWhat It ChecksWhy It Matters
Document extractionFile format, encoding, readabilityCorrupted or image-only PDFs fail immediately
Layout analysisTables, columns, headers, footersMulti-column layouts break field extraction
Section detectionExperience, education, skills headingsNon-standard headings cause sections to be missed
Field mappingName, email, phone, dates, titlesMissing contact info is a common cause of immediate rejection
Keyword matchingJob-specific terms, skills, certificationsKeyword overlap affects recruiter search visibility and ATS scoring
Chronology checkDate ordering, gap detectionReverse-chronological order is expected by most ATS

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ResumeGeni free?
Yes. ResumeGeni is currently in beta — ATS analysis, scoring, and initial improvement suggestions are free with no signup required. Full guidance and saved reports may require a free account.
What file formats are supported?
PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, RTF, ODT, and Apple Pages. PDF and DOCX are recommended for best ATS compatibility.
How is the ATS score calculated?
Your resume is processed through an 8-layer parsing pipeline that extracts structured data the same way enterprise ATS platforms do. The score reflects how completely and accurately your resume can be parsed, plus how well your content matches common ATS ranking criteria.
Can ATS read PDF resumes?
Yes, but not all PDFs are equal. Text-based PDFs parse well. Image-only PDFs (scanned documents) and PDFs with complex tables or multi-column layouts often fail ATS parsing. Our analyzer will flag these issues.
How do I improve my ATS score?
Focus on three areas: use a clean single-column format, include keywords from the job description naturally in your experience bullets, and ensure all sections (contact, experience, education, skills) use standard headings.

What You'll Do

As an IT Associate Forward Engineer, you will be part of interdisciplinary teams made up of architects, strategy consultants, and engineers. You will make concrete contributions to the design and prototype of architectural solutions, with a fast track toward increasing levels of responsibility.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong technical foundation, a keen interest in business, and no fear of tackling complex and ambiguous problems head-on.

  • Shape the digital transformation of globally leading companies, ensuring their success by evaluating our clients' digital capabilities and performing feasibility studies
  • Contribute to the design of cloud-native and microservices-based architectures on AWS, Azure, or GCP, supporting the definition of technical blueprints
  • Develop and document REST/GraphQL APIs, OpenAPI contracts, and integration patterns across heterogeneous systems
  • Support the delivery of Proofs of Concept (PoCs) on emerging technologies (GenAI, cloud-native, data mesh) and present results to clients in a business-oriented way
  • Analyze existing application landscapes (as-is) and contribute to the definition of modernization roadmaps
  • Collaborate with strategy consultants to translate business requirements into documented, presentation-ready technical solutions
  • Produce high-quality deliverables: architecture diagrams, Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), executive slides, and technical documentation
  • Actively participate in client workshops, developing technical communication and stakeholder engagement skills

What You'll Bring

  • A degree in computer science, (business) informatics, or a related discipline - strong academic record preferred
  • 2–5 years of experience in software development or technical roles in cloud, backend, or system integration
  • Hands-on knowledge of at least one cloud provider (AWS/Azure/GCP) and familiarity with key managed services
  • Experience with microservices architectures, API design, and containerization (Docker / Kubernetes)
  • Deep expertise in at least one of the following domains: Cloud Architecture (AWS/Azure/GCP), Data & Analytics Platform, Application Modernization, API & Integration
  • Systems thinking mindset: ability to understand how technical choices impact cost, scalability, and time-to-market
  • Comfort with ambiguity: ability to move forward even when requirements are not fully defined
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams with the ability to manage technical backlogs and tech debt in a structured way
  • Knowledge of GenAI architecture patterns: RAG, LLM orchestration (LangChain / LlamaIndex), embeddings, vector databases
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Architecture frameworks (TOGAF or equivalent)
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills in Italian and English ((B2 minimum, C1 preferred) — client interaction is a core part of the role
  • Willingness to travel to client sites (frequency varies by project)

Nice to have

  • Cloud certification (AWS SAA, Azure AZ-104/305, GCP ACE)
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, IaC (Terraform / Pulumi), and DevOps practices
  • Knowledge of event-driven patterns (Kafka, RabbitMQ) or data solutions (Spark, Airflow)
  • Consulting experience, internships at advisory firms, or university projects with real-world system impact
