As a Transmission Planning Engineer you will perform detailed transmission system modeling work and powerflow studies. The analysis will be used within a multi-functional team to inform and guide project development and acquisition strategies. You will create reports and presentations to document and explain the conclusions of your analysis and provide recommendations to a mix of technical and non-technical colleagues. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience working with 1 or more powerflow analysis tools including hands-on modeling experience in at least one energy market.   

Responsibilities:  

  • Provide transmission analytical support and insights to a growing portfolio of BESS, Renewable, and Hybrid projects;
  • Perform powerflow analysis to understand the potential risks and costs of interconnecting new generation to the system;
  • Assess the technical and commercial feasibility of green-fielding or acquiring projects;
  • Develop planning level cost estimates for interconnection facilities;
  • Prepare summaries, reports, and other materials of technical results to technical and non-technical team members;
  • Research, development, and creation of powerflow models, data validation, proposed project modeling;
  • Develop and streamline processes and automation to support an efficient workflow;
  • Other duties as required or assigned. 

Key Qualifications: 

  • 3 years minimum experience and proficiency with at least one Powerflow Software: TARA, PSSE, PSLF;
  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering with additional consideration given to applicants with advanced degrees;
  • Additional consideration given to applicants with prior generation development and/or consulting experience;
  • Experience in one or more electric markets (CAISO, PJM, ERCOT, NYISO);
  • Working knowledge of NERC planning standards;
  • Experience with Python, Java, or similar programming languages desired;
  • Experience with data visualization tools (ArcGIS, PowerBI) desired;
  • Possess strong communication skills;
  • Highly organized with demonstrated ability to work under tight time requirements and deadlines.
