Key Takeaways

  • 75% of U.S. employers use automated applicant tracking systems to screen resumes before a human reviews them (Harvard Business School & Accenture, 2021)
  • The most common ATS failures are missing keywords, incompatible formatting, and incorrect file types
  • ResumeGeni scores your resume across 8 parsing layers — modeled on the same steps enterprise ATS platforms like Workday, Greenhouse, and Taleo use to evaluate candidates

How ATS Resume Scoring Works

Applicant tracking systems parse your resume into structured data — extracting your name, contact info, work history, skills, and education — then score how well that data matches the job requirements. Many ATS rejections happen because the parser couldn't extract critical fields, not because the candidate wasn't qualified.

LayerWhat It ChecksWhy It Matters
Document extractionFile format, encoding, readabilityCorrupted or image-only PDFs fail immediately
Layout analysisTables, columns, headers, footersMulti-column layouts break field extraction
Section detectionExperience, education, skills headingsNon-standard headings cause sections to be missed
Field mappingName, email, phone, dates, titlesMissing contact info is a common cause of immediate rejection
Keyword matchingJob-specific terms, skills, certificationsKeyword overlap affects recruiter search visibility and ATS scoring
Chronology checkDate ordering, gap detectionReverse-chronological order is expected by most ATS

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ResumeGeni free?
Yes. ResumeGeni is currently in beta — ATS analysis, scoring, and initial improvement suggestions are free with no signup required. Full guidance and saved reports may require a free account.
What file formats are supported?
PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, RTF, ODT, and Apple Pages. PDF and DOCX are recommended for best ATS compatibility.
How is the ATS score calculated?
Your resume is processed through an 8-layer parsing pipeline that extracts structured data the same way enterprise ATS platforms do. The score reflects how completely and accurately your resume can be parsed, plus how well your content matches common ATS ranking criteria.
Can ATS read PDF resumes?
Yes, but not all PDFs are equal. Text-based PDFs parse well. Image-only PDFs (scanned documents) and PDFs with complex tables or multi-column layouts often fail ATS parsing. Our analyzer will flag these issues.
How do I improve my ATS score?
Focus on three areas: use a clean single-column format, include keywords from the job description naturally in your experience bullets, and ensure all sections (contact, experience, education, skills) use standard headings.

Who we are.

Axi is a leading global provider of margin and deliverable Foreign Exchange, Contracts for Difference (CFDs), and Financial Spread betting. Our business has evolved into a world-class, multifaceted brokerage with offices in six regions. With heavy investment in the latest trading technology, Axi seeks to offer the most comprehensive end-to-end trading experience available, servicing traders of all levels from beginners to institutional-level clients.

Let's talk about the cool stuff you do at Axi!

The Architecture organization partners with Engineering, Data, Risk, and Product teams to define platforms, standards, and reference architectures that enable safe, fast delivery at scale. As Data Architect, you will shape how we organize, govern, and serve data across Axi’s technology ecosystem

Your EDGE Assignment/You Will

  • Define end-to-end data platform architecture spanning ingestion, storage, processing, and serving layers using Azure Databricks, SQL Server, Cosmos DB, and Data Lake technologies.
  • Design batch, streaming, and real-time data pipelines for trading, risk, regulatory, and customer data, establishing clear SLAs and contracts with consumers.
  • Establish data governance frameworks: data classification, lineage tracking, quality standards, and compliance/security requirements.
  • Create reference architectures and decision trees for data-heavy services (OLTP vs OLAP, relational vs NoSQL, batch vs streaming, medallion/lakehouse patterns).
  • Lead architectural reviews and provide guidance to domain PODs and Data Engineering teams on data strategy, technology choices, and scalability.
  • Design data models and storage strategies balancing transactional consistency, analytical performance, and cost efficiency.
  • Work closely with Risk, Finance, and Compliance teams to ensure data architectures meet regulatory and audit requirements.

Technical Requirements

  • Deep expertise with Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, and the Medallion (Bronze/Silver/Gold) architecture pattern for data lakehouses.
  • Expert-level understanding of Apache Spark, including optimization, cluster management, and cost control.
  • Strong SQL Server knowledge: data warehousing, dimensional modeling, indexing, query optimization, and replication strategies.
  • Solid experience with Cosmos DB: partitioning strategies, consistency models, throughput management, and cost optimization.
  • Experience with Azure data services: Data Lake Storage Gen2, Azure Synapse, Data Factory, Event Hubs, or equivalent.
  • Understanding of data governance, metadata management, and data cataloging tools (e.g., Purview, Collibra, or similar).
  • Knowledge of data quality frameworks and testing strategies for batch and streaming pipelines.
  • Experience with security and compliance in data platforms (encryption, RBAC, audit logging, regulatory requirements)

 Requirements

  • 7–14 years of experience in data engineering and/or data architecture, with at least 3+ years in an architecture or principal engineer role.
  • Proven track record designing and scaling data platforms in financial services, trading, or other regulated, high-volume environments.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex architectural concepts to both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience influencing organizational practices, standards, and tool selection across multiple teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance innovation, performance, cost, and regulatory requirements in architecture decisions.
