Key Takeaways

  • 75% of U.S. employers use automated applicant tracking systems to screen resumes before a human reviews them (Harvard Business School & Accenture, 2021)
  • The most common ATS failures are missing keywords, incompatible formatting, and incorrect file types
  • ResumeGeni scores your resume across 8 parsing layers — modeled on the same steps enterprise ATS platforms like Workday, Greenhouse, and Taleo use to evaluate candidates

How ATS Resume Scoring Works

Applicant tracking systems parse your resume into structured data — extracting your name, contact info, work history, skills, and education — then score how well that data matches the job requirements. Many ATS rejections happen because the parser couldn't extract critical fields, not because the candidate wasn't qualified.

Layout analysisTables, columns, headers, footersMulti-column layouts break field extraction
Section detectionExperience, education, skills headingsNon-standard headings cause sections to be missed
Field mappingName, email, phone, dates, titlesMissing contact info is a common cause of immediate rejection

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ResumeGeni free?
Yes. ResumeGeni is currently in beta — ATS analysis, scoring, and initial improvement suggestions are free with no signup required. Full guidance and saved reports may require a free account.
What file formats are supported?
PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, RTF, ODT, and Apple Pages. PDF and DOCX are recommended for best ATS compatibility.
How is the ATS score calculated?
Your resume is processed through an 8-layer parsing pipeline that extracts structured data the same way enterprise ATS platforms do. The score reflects how completely and accurately your resume can be parsed, plus how well your content matches common ATS ranking criteria.
Can ATS read PDF resumes?
Yes, but not all PDFs are equal. Text-based PDFs parse well. Image-only PDFs (scanned documents) and PDFs with complex tables or multi-column layouts often fail ATS parsing. Our analyzer will flag these issues.
How do I improve my ATS score?
Focus on three areas: use a clean single-column format, include keywords from the job description naturally in your experience bullets, and ensure all sections (contact, experience, education, skills) use standard headings.

Growth & GTM Engineer

Assembly · New York

Learn about us and our openings here: https://www.assembly.com/jobs

About the role

As our first Growth & GTM Engineer, you’ll collaborate closely with the founders and operate at the intersection of engineering, product, and marketing — building both in-product features (onboarding flows, referrals, templates, etc.) and external GTM initiatives (agents that scrape lead lists, outbound automation, and experimenting with next-gen AI tools). This is a highly cross-functional role reporting to the CEO that’s ideal for someone technical who loves rolling up their sleeves, coding prototypes, and iterating on growth strategies that span the entire funnel.

What you’ll do

  • Own product growth features. You’ll code and optimize onboarding flows, referrals, viral loops, templates, and more.

  • Automate GTM processes. You’ll scrape lead lists, set up outbound sequences, and integrate cutting-edge AI tools (like 11x or clay.io) to supercharge our sales and marketing motions.

  • Experiment rapidly. You’ll design and run A/B tests, measure impact, and iterate quickly on ideas that drive user adoption and revenue.

  • Collaborate across teams. You’ll partner with product, marketing, sales, and engineering to build cohesive growth roadmaps that align with company objectives.

  • Drive data-backed decisions. You’ll track relevant metrics and funnel data, using insights to shape new strategies and refine existing ones.

  • Stay on the bleeding edge. You’ll continuously research new tools, platforms, and frameworks for growth, testing what’s possible and bringing the best solutions in-house.

Who you are

  • You’re a hybrid. You have enough technical chops to build and deploy high quality code, and you’re equally comfortable talking growth metrics and marketing ROI.

  • You love problem-solving. You enjoy figuring out the fastest way to validate an idea — whether that’s writing a script, spinning up a landing page, or scraping data.

  • You’re data-driven. You make decisions based on metrics, using insights to refine experiments and maximize impact.

  • You’re collaborative. You thrive on cross-functional projects, naturally bridging the gap between engineering, product, marketing, and sales.

  • You move fast. You’re scrappy, decisive, and ready to pivot based on real-time feedback.

  • You’re an early-stage enthusiast. You understand the excitement (and chaos) of startups, and you’re eager to build from the ground up.

  • You love working in person. We're convinced that building a strong culture happens face-to-face, and we're looking for people who thrive in highly collaborative, in-person environments.
